I agree with every word of this letter.
These points are clear and obvious to everyone involved in second level education. The problem is that everyone not involved in second level education thinks they know better.

And if you hear about a good starting salary look it up and half it, if not quarter it, to find out what a large cohort of teachers are actually earning.

None of this is to say teachers have it worse than anyone else, it's just to give the reality.
All jobs have their issues.

If you hear any "expert" coming on radio shows implying that this is all fine, that they'll all get great jobs, that they'll easily find a room to live, that there's no real problem with teaching outside your subject area, then you're listening to an absolute spoofer.

You have to be hired for your 3rd Yr to get a CID (a version if "permanent").
Many teachers aren't retained into the 2nd yr, and many don't get the 3rd yr (so no CID).
The system is a mess and wide open for nefarious manipulation.

That's before the cost of living kicks in.

As it's in the news:
2nd level teachers are often offered less than half hours. This means they have to find other work to pay for the privilege of being a teacher.
You have to reinterview after your 1st year teaching for the same job you just did.
