@kershaw_alex America continues on even if D Day fails. There was no existential threat from Germany in 1944. Worse case is a retreat to GB and try again in 45-46, or just let the Russians handle it. The July 3/4 1863 victories of Gettysburg and Vicksburg are far more consequential.
