Virginia’s Alfred Street Baptist Church has donated more than $1 million to help prevent the eviction of over 300 struggling families from public housing.
On this day 31 years ago, a 12-year-old boy was shot and killed while riding a bicycle with his cousins in a village near Lahore, Pakistan.
His name was Iqbal Masih.
At four years old, his family sold him to a carpet factory owner to repay a debt of 600 rupees, less than $12. For the next six years, he was chained to a loom. He worked 12 hours a day, seven days a week, for a few cents. He was beaten with a carpet fork when he slowed down. The factory owners deliberately underfed the children so their fingers would stay small enough for the intricate weaving.
By the time he was 10, he stood just four feet tall, 12 inches shorter than the average boy his age.
One morning, he escaped. He jumped on the back of a tractor heading to a meeting about bonded labour. He heard a man explain that what the factory owners were doing was illegal under Pakistani law. When the man asked if anyone wanted to speak, Iqbal stepped up to the microphone.
He never stopped.
He helped free over 3,000 children from bonded labour in carpet factories across Pakistan. He completed five years of schoolwork in three. He spoke at international conferences in Sweden and the United States. He told a room full of adults in Boston that he wanted to become a lawyer so he could free every enslaved child in Pakistan. He was 12 years old. Brandeis University offered him a full scholarship and said they would be waiting for him.
When asked why he would return to Pakistan when he knew his life was in danger, he said his mission was more important than his life.
On Easter Sunday 1995, he was shot in the back while cycling home. He was hit by over 120 shotgun pellets. His cousins were barely touched. He was the target.
His funeral was attended by 800 people. In the days that followed, 3,000 people marched through Lahore. Half of them were under the age of 12.
After his death, a group of seventh-graders from a school in Massachusetts where Iqbal had once spoken raised $25,000 and built a school in his name in Pakistan. April 16 is now recognised as the International Day Against Child Slavery. The United States Congress created the Iqbal Masih Award for the Elimination of Child Labour in his honour. It is still given out every year.
In 2022, Deng Youcai's wife was left paralyzed by a brain tumor. She asked him to let her die, but he refused.
He became her full-time caregiver, spent over ¥2m (~$280,000), and danced everyday in front of her to cheer her up until she finally recovered.
Unconditional love❤️
For I was hungry, and you voted against the school lunch program that provided me my only meal of the day, I was thirsty and you voted against clean water legislation, a stranger and you voted to lock me in a cage at an I.C.E. concentration camp at the border.
Let us remember, men only reached the moon because of the tireless work of a segregated black woman who performed math none of them could.
She was also born in WV and attended West Virginia University, where a scholarship program exists for other black students in STEM named after her.
Katherine Johnson did this in a time when just getting an education as a black woman was far more difficult then it ever needed to be.
May you look at every NASA rocket and think of her. She earned it.
It never fails that someone who makes hatred of the LGBTQIA community the centerpiece of their religion is hiding some nefarious shit in their own lives.
NEVER FAILS.
The Supreme Court has refused to hear a man on death row's appeal for a DNA test on a murder weapon. Rodney Reed was convicted for the murder of Stacey Stites, but he says the belt that was used to strangle her was never tested for DNA and he accuses her fiance (former police officer Jimmy Fennell) of the murder.
Fennell was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman in his custody while he was a cop. During his time in prison, several of his fellow inmates claimed that Fennell confessed to killing Stacey Stites.
Stites was white and Reed is Black. Inmates said Fennell was angry about an interracial affair between the 2 and bragged about the murder.
Unless he's granted clemency or a pardon, the state of Texas will execute Rodney Reed without the world ever knowing whether it was his or Fennell's DNA on the murder weapon.
This is so messed up.
Just got off the phone with President Trump.
In our meeting earlier, I shared my concerns about Columbia student Elmina Aghayeva, who was detained by ICE this morning.
He has just informed me that she will be released imminently.
Women in Afghanistan, inspired by Iranian women, are now burning portraits of Taliban leaders in the streets and chanting “Death to the Taliban.”
This comes after the Taliban legalized slavery and allowed husbands to physically punish wives and children.
This is Rodney Taylor, a disabled double amputee who’s been imprisoned by ICE for a year.
He was about to get new prosthetic legs when he was kidnapped… and they won’t let him have them.
His health is declining & there’s been almost no media coverage.
No protests. No noise.
Former ICE agent: I am duty bound to report the legally required training program at the ICE Academy as deficient, defective, and broken. On my first day training new cadets, I received secretive orders to teach them to violate the Constitution by entering homes without a judicial warrant. I watched ICE cut 240 hours of vital classes that teach our legal system, firearms training, the use of force, lawful arrests, proper detention, and the limits of officers' authority.
“I think people need to understand: This is not civil detention.”
Immigration attorney Eric Lee describes horrific conditions facing children in ICE detention, including at the Dilley Detention Center in South Texas.
He recounts a 13-year-old girl who attempted suicide. Two 5-year-olds held for eight months, suffering recurring nightmares. Another child given only aspirin for appendicitis.
Lee says children are kept in disease-infested conditions and denied adequate food, water, and medical care. The number of children in ICE detention has increased sixfold since the start of the second Trump administration.
Lee also points to Hillary Clinton’s remarks at the Munich Security Conference, saying the detention camp system is bipartisan: Dilley opened under Obama, and Trump has now expanded it.

ÚLTIMA HORA: Han pasado más de cuatro semanas desde que 173 personas fueron secuestradas durante un servicio religioso de domingo.
¿Cómo es que NADIE habla de esto?
173 cristianos inocentes secuestrados por islamistas.
Rape victims are often accused of adultery under Sharia law if they report being raped by married Muslim men.
Here is a shocking example:
A 13-year-old girl in Somalia was raped by an adult Muslim man. Instead of punishing him, an Islamic Sharia court sentenced her to death because her married rapist claimed she had “seduced” him by appearing in public. The court agreed and convicted her of adultery.
Hundreds of Muslim men gathered to stone her to death as an offering to Allah. They laughed, cheered, and shouted “Allahu Akbar” as she screamed in agony until her last breath. Not one man stepped forward to save the 13-year-old rape victim.
Everyone in the village heard her cries for help before the execution. Instead of intervening, they tied her hands behind her back and chained her feet. The local imam directed men to dig a hole and bury her up to her waist so she could not move or dodge the stones aimed at her head.
For hours before and during the stoning, she begged for mercy, looking toward her neighbors, her father, and every Muslim man taking part. Until her final breath, she cried out, but no one rescued her. Of the hundreds of men present, none showed compassion. The participants gladly joined this Islamic act of worship, ignoring her pleas and rejoicing with “Allahu Akbar” while brutally killing her.
