I’m delighted to share the news that I’m starting a new position as Senior Advisor at @EnergySysCat ! Very excited to continue & widen the work we've been doing at @ActiveBuildingC Also very happy to be joining another 3 letter organisation: From BBC, PCC, ABC to ESC ! 😃
The UK's clean energy transition is only as good as the data behind it.
The Smart Energy Data Service (SENSE) is building that foundation, pooling datasets on EV access, real-world energy use & mobility patterns across the UK to give researchers & innovators a clearer picture.
Net Zero is just a bad name for the opportunity of the Century - the Green Economy. This latest report from the CBI (not some leftie leaning think tank - the Confederation of British Industry..) makes this clear - already our Green Economy supports 1 million jobs and adds £100 Billion a year to our economy - half a Trillion £s of investment is poised to take place due to our commitment to this Net Zero thing. Net Zero suggests giving stuff up, the green economy is actually all about opportunity, jobs and GDP. Tony Blair and Nigel Farage have at least one thing in common - being dead wrong about Net Zero.

There has never been a more urgent time to focus on energy innovation.
Wholesale gas prices are climbing. Fixed-rate energy deals are disappearing. Household bills are set to rise again this summer, this time with the cause tracing back to the Strait of Hormuz.
Our CEO Guy Newey joined Rob Horgan and James Wallin on the Utility Week podcast to break down what it all means.
He also gets into what's keeping the Catapult busy: our work in the flexibility space and our role as part of the Energy Networks Innovation Taskforce.
There's been a lot to keep up with in energy policy lately.
Ed Miliband's plan to break the link between electricity and gas prices. The Reformed National Pricing delivery plan. The Ofgem review. All landing at once.
Most heat pump installs aren't failing because of the technology.
They're failing because of a lack of space for a cylinder, tricky pipework changes, and lengthy installation times that end in many consumers just giving up on their chance for cleaner heat.
What could you do with £40,000 and a year of funded research time?
The Smart Energy Data Service (SENSE) is offering exactly that to researchers working on data-driven solutions in electricity or gas.
In the video below, CEO and Co-Founder Lee Sutton explains how Energy Systems Catapult has been part of their journey, supporting work on consumer flexibility and long duration energy storage, and helping them understand and communicate what they found.
Their products divert surplus solar power to wherever it's most useful: your EV, your hot water tank, your home battery or your heating. Easy to install, easy to use, with support if you need it.
EXC: Ministers have unpicked our electricity system … but can they now sort it fast enough?
We hear a lot from this government about the race for renewables because of Russia and the Middle East. But it’s hit a pretty big snag
Important film by @JoeCookJ - part of our series on why Britain needs a functioning political system if it's to fix its problems
On Monday #wind generated 29.4% of British electricity followed by imports 20.2%, nuclear 19.9%, solar 14.3%, gas 12.3%, biomass 3.9%, hydro 0.0%, *excl. non-renewable distributed generation
Grid bottlenecks aren’t a failure of the energy transition — they’re proof it’s working.
Renewables got cheap fast, and now the grid has to catch up. Time to build the wires for the clean energy system we already have.
Data centres eat electricity.
But their waste heat?
Finland turns it into home heating.
Cities are plugging data-centre heat into district-heating systems — cutting waste and cutting emissions.
@Glos_Police There are some good people who work in the office of police and crime commissioner and whatever happens I hope their roles are merged into the police where possible.
Whilst I think that @GlosPCC2012_21 did an amazing job. The role should never be party political. I think it has become party political and some PCCs are simply not up to the job. The independence of the @Glos_Police is paramount.
