@neilDCFC@sharrond62 What!? So when there are age and gender categories, it's not a race. If there are age and sex categories, it becomes a race? Nonsense. It's a race either way, and with gender not sex categories, it is currently unfair for women and girls.
@HelenWebberley@cambridgeunion@AndrewBoff I found myself agreeing with part of your argument @HelenWebberley: trans women (& trans men) should be proud of what they are - i.e. males who chose to present as women (& vice versa). But clearly that doesn't bestow rights to spaces/sports/opportunities of the opposite sex
@itsafrogslife@SunnivaGunn But you've seen the evidence from the same unpublished consultations that categorisation by sex is a barrier to participation for transgender individuals?
@itsafrogslife@boooooo50891527 Just like men, women are motivated by a variety of factors. For some men & women (& boys & girls), any running event offers a competitive motivation. If that's against the ethos of parkrun, it should drop the results altogether. If it is part of parkrun, it needs to be fair.
@itsafrogslife@boooooo50891527 We're listening, just remain entirely unconvinced that gender registration is justified given how this disadvantages women and girls.
@neilDCFC@itsafrogslife@boooooo50891527 How about it @parkrunUK - can you please share the results of your 2023 consultation that informed your decision to stick to your gender registration policy? Who was consulted, what was asked, and how did different groups respond?
@itsafrogslife@boooooo50891527 Not what I wrote. I'd want to see the evidence that led parkrun to stick to their gender policy, to understand what was asked, and how different groups responded. Don't you?
@itsafrogslife@boooooo50891527 Then I'm not convinced that women and girls have been appropriately consulted on this, or given chance to express their views.
@itsafrogslife@boooooo50891527 Sex is relevant when results (inc age grading) are published, as with parkrun. Is anyone even asking women and girls if they consider registration/results by gender a barrier to participation in parkrun? Certainly it is in other activities. And plenty are vocal about it on X...
@itsafrogslife@boooooo50891527 As many women have pointed out, registration by gender is one of the barriers to participation in physical activity and sports for women and girls. Registration by sex removes that potential barrier. Gender isn't relevant in sport, sex is.
@itsafrogslife@jeannie_brady The signal it sends to women is the same - that women's achievements are secondary to men's wants/demands. There are already lots of barriers to girls and women participating in sport and exercise - why add further disadvantage and discouragement?
@itsafrogslife@jeannie_brady If the female category is justified for fairness and inclusion, it should be for females only. As with age categories, weight categories, etc. There can be no compromise on eligibility for these groups, otherwise their purpose is lost, and the affected group is impacted.
@itsafrogslife@jeannie_brady If sex segregation is appropriate for female inclusion and fairness at elite / championship level, why not also at mass / grassroots level? Why should any women and girls have their inclusion / fairness measures compromised?
@neilDCFC@MaryDenis8591@olvxska@mara_yamauchi@MayorofLondon How about you show some decency! You know why female sports exist; why should inclusion measures to enable fairness for women & girls be compromised because some males "don't want to" compete in the correct sex category? It is clear you support male wants over female needs.
@itsafrogslife@jeannie_brady I'm asking for your view - re London marathon - do you think it would be a fair policy to allow males to register as female, in a prestigious running event, when we know running is a sex-affected activity?
