Is a coding bootcamp really worth your time & money? We recently teamed up w/ @ConductScience to take a deep dive into the latest datasets from the Council on Integrity in Results Reporting. Part 1: https://t.co/I9QcwGFdRK

*Exactly* Not only does this language create a false distinction between scientists and others, it's a lazy way of defining the audience of your #scicomm piece.
Get to know the humans you're communicating that science to - one flawed human being to another.
PSA to scientists & science communicators: WE ARE PART OF “THE PUBLIC”
Maybe you mean “engage fellow taxpayers” or “speak without technical language” or “non-technical audience” or just “folks beyond our community”.
Excited to share my first piece for @Neurocrew where I take a dive down memory lane and talk about the very first episode of the On Your Mind #Podcast!

Full time scicommers! What's your biggest research scientist habit pet peeve?
Pick one of these anonymously or reply to add yours/elaborate!
(Again, #NotAllScientists)
Research scientists! What's your biggest scicommer pet peeve!
Pick one of these anonymously or reply with yours/elaborate!
(These aren't necessarily the case obv. I am a fulltime scicommer. Go ahead and roast us... Gently though 😂 #NotAllScicommers)
My first @Neurocrew post is up! I talk about connecting with your audience and what I've learned about #scicomm by writing for the @LohDown on Science 👩🔬🧫✨.
BEWARE OF:
🚩 Oversimplification
🚩 Abuse of the prefix "neuro"
🚩 Overblown claims and promises
🚩 A lack of research backing up the claims
🚩 Clickbait headlines
And *this* ladies and gentlemen is science communication at its best. 👏👏 Really clear job distilling the science into plain English. Also: great use of media. Also: this entire thread doubles as a reminder that the brain is just 🤩
Story time! Single neurons in the brain can’t be depended on for reliable information. Here are some neurons from our recent study, recorded twice in response to the same visual stimuli. Different neurons are active at different times!
