Since when do science magazine editors get to decide which policies are acceptable and which aren’t (& with strong words like “permissible”) ? That’s the purview of politics.
Their only job is to make sure that they publish high quality science.

And of course, #notallscientists. In fact, ignorant me has been graciously welcomed by the vast majority of scientists I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with professionally and personally. This is specific to a vocal —but powerful!—minority.
