🚨 Navy veteran charged with murder after beating 69-year-old Army veteran to death outside his home.

Thomas Caleb Butler a Navy veteran was charged with murder after prosecutors say he launched an unprovoked attack on Kerry Sheron, 69, outside Sheron’s Escondido, California home on May 20.

Butler struck Sheron once in the jaw, then continued hitting him in the head after he fell to the ground. Sheron was hospitalized in critical condition and died four days later on May 24. A bystander who tried to intervene was also injured.

Sheron was well-known locally for his home covered in American flags and pro-Trump signs displays his wife said had already drawn prior threats. Butler lived just blocks away. No confirmed motive has been released, and police have not developed evidence of a political component despite investigating that possibility.

Butler, who served in the Navy from 2011 to 2023 with medals for counterterrorism operations, now faces murder charges. His initial attempted murder charges were upgraded after Sheron’s death.

An elderly veteran was beaten to death outside his own home in broad daylight. His family is left grieving while the motive remains unclear.

Austin Metcalf pushed Karmelo Anthony first. That has been repeatedly confirmed by the prosecution’s witnesses. Today, a witness also said Metcalf became irritated and asked Anthony to leave the tent multiple times. That same witness also said Metcalf put both hands on Anthony’s shoulders and pushed him.
