The New Dixie Highway project will bring safety and efficiency improvements for those who live and work along this important Southwest Louisville corridor.
Dixie Highway was one of Louisville’s busiest, widest and most dangerous transportation corridors. Now, the @NewDixieHighway has improved safety and mobility for the thousands of residents and businesses that depend on it.
Update: Work continues to connect the final technology pieces of the New Dixie Highway project. Fiber-optic cable installation is progressing on schedule. Once fiber connectivity is in place, new hardware for traffic signals and digital screens at bus shelters will go live.
The American Society of Highway Engineers Derby City chapter recently awarded the New Dixie Highway with its 2020 Transportation Improvement Award. @LouPubWorks, @HDR_Inc and @MACConstructOH accepted the award at a virtual luncheon earlier this month.
Motorists can take the following detour: continue on I-264 East to exit 9 (Taylor Blvd/KY 1865). Make a left onto KY 1865 to take the westbound I-264 ramp. Take exit 8A for southbound U.S. 31 W (Dixie Hwy).
TRAFFIC ADVISORY: The off-ramp from I-264 (Watterson Expressway) East to southbound U.S. 31 W (Exit 8A) in Jefferson County will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. tonight for concrete slab replacement. The ramp will re-open by 6 a.m. on Monday, July 27.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: The on-ramps from Southbound U.S. 31 W to both I-264 East and I-264 West will be closed for slab replacement work again this weekend. The ramps will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. tonight and will re-open by 6 a.m. on Monday, June 29.
Fiber-optic cable installation is happening now. Some lane closures between Algonquin Pkwy. and Nobel Place northbound will be needed. Through other parts off the project area, only shoulder closures will be required.
Traffic alert: Starting today, workers will be installing fiber-optic cable that will improve traffic signaling and provide real-time information to RAPID stations along Dixie Highway. Some short-term lane closures will be required from Nobel Pl. to Algonquin Pkwy. northbound.
TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Concrete slab replacement work is scheduled to take place this weekend in Jefferson Co. The on-ramps from southbound U.S. 31 W (Dixie Hwy) to I-264 East & I-264 West will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. tomorrow (6/19) and will re-open by 6 a.m. on Monday (6/22).
Traffic alert: Starting Monday, fiber-optic cable installation will require short term lane closures on northbound Dixie Highway from Nobel Place to Algonquin Parkway. Closures will be limited to one lane, last less than 3 days in a single location, and shift as work shifts.

Mowing on medians will continue at least once every two weeks throughout the growing season. The new medians between Greenwood Road and Crums Lane encourage safer traffic patterns by limiting where drivers can make left turns.
The paving of the New Dixie Highway is complete! Some striping work remains including crosswalks, stop bars and turn arrows. Pavement must be dry for striping to take place.
