Jason, Canada negotiated CUSMA with Trump, honours it, and still allows virtually all qualifying US goods in tariff-free. Trump then imposed 50% tariffs on roughly $20B of Canadian goods, rejected renewal of his own agreement and threatened Canadian autos. Canada answered with matched, targeted tariffs only after negotiations failed.

That’s called retaliation because...even in words of four syllables...the aggressor acts first.

And spare us the “joining China” pantomime: Trump himself has repeatedly negotiated and struck trade deals with China. Apparently dealing with Beijing is shrewd statesmanship when Trump does it, but sinister treason when Canada independently defends itself against the same tariffs.

You’re a congressman. Try obtaining your facts somewhere other than the placemat under Trump’s Diet Coke.
