The saddest compilation video I have ever made. But perhaps also the most positive if it causes a reduction in plastic pollution in 2024. In once pristine seas, every nearshore plankton sample I now collect contains plastic microfibers. (Sound On) @zeiss_micro
Do this worm's peepers catch your eye?
They certainly did for Natasha Hynes (@newfoundmermaid), who zoomed in on a tiny creature to share a big part of ocean life.
Read about her photo, then go vote for it in @NSERC_CRSNG's Science Exposed contest!

My cat was meowing at the door when I left for work, so my partner promptly informed him that he cannot come to work with me b/c he can't do the core tasks of my job:
1. Count plankton
2. Move stuff around
3. Write emails
No need for my CV, please just refer to the above.

Every year I give my students an assignment where they can blend their creativity with any topic covered in class. Many students make memes, and the memes for my wildlife data collection and analysis course this year are on point. Get ready for nerdy population modeling memes! π§΅
Say "hello!" to a little friend!
(And then head over to @NSERC_CRSNG's #Scienceexposed to vote for your favourite from among the finalists - which include this great image from @UNB student Natasha Hynes.)
I'm pretty sure she immediately regretted it because I basically kicked her out of her own station until I got the lighting and focus as perfect as I could π
I'm grateful to have a way to show the world what I see under my microscope, like this little worm πͺ± (3/3)

This photo is from the #zooplankton samples I collected for my MSc, but I have been working with zooplankton for several years. I remember the first time I used a #microscope with a camera attachment at my lab supervisor's station. (2/3)
