I remember one time at Ikpoba Hill when an old man used his korope to brush our car.
That car was less than 24 hours old.
I came out so angry, vibrating, but I wasnβt violent.
Osas, on the other hand, came out boiling and ready to explode.
Osas was this close to slapping the man.
I had to de-escalate the situation.
Fast forward to that afternoon, I was in front of S&T Barracks when I saw the same man loading passengers.
He came forward and apologized again.
Then he asked about Osas and I told him he was inside the barracks.
The man looked at me and said:
βTell your brother to dey calm down settle things. Some of us, once we see say you get the spirit of anger, we go just go house go appease that your spirit of anger to help us destroy you.β
As he was talking, Osas drove out just as the man was about to leave.
I told Osas what the man said.
Osas stepped out of the car, took the man one side, and a few minutes later, both of them came back smiling.
Everything was settled.
As we drove off, Osas called his mum and started telling her everything that happened.
All his mother kept asking was:
βHope you no hit the man?β
βHope una don settle?β
While all this was going on, the only person I was thinking about was myself.
I was telling myself Sometimes the warning you think is meant for somebody else is actually meant for you.
Anger? It can make somebody else offend you, then still make YOU become the person that pays the biggest price.
Once people know anger controls you, they already know where your button is.
Anybody who knows how to provoke you can control you if you havenβt learned how to control yourself.
Since that day, I have never forgotten that old manβs words.
Updateβ¦β¦
I got back home around 6:30pm yesterday and met my friend and my man in my house. None of them even called to tell me they were coming. Anyways, both of them have my keys.
I saw their cars parked outside and I was boiling like hot water for Eba. I entered the house and met both of them gisting and laughing like nothing happened.
I was like, βSo these two guys don see one mumu girl?β
I just walked straight to my room without greeting either of them. At this point, I was still annoyed with both of them, especially my friend because of this sudden relationship matter he had brought into our friendship.
About 5 minutes later, my man entered the room and said, βSo you want to pretend you didnβt see us?β
I just dey look am like beans. I wasnβt in the mood to talk to either of them.
When he got tired, he left. Then my friend came into the room. The first thing he said was, βI miss you sha. You no even send candy and peanut.β
I looked at him and just hissed. This one too wanted to act normal when he had already thrown our friendship into confusion by saying he wanted us to date.
He left me in the room too.
Later, I went to meet them in the sitting room and asked if they wanted semo and Egusi soup.
These guys had the audacity to say YES! π
I made the food and we all ate together like three people who didnβt have any serious relationship wahala. π
But honestly, my own wahala is just starting. I need to sit my friend down and have a serious conversation with him. I need to know what suddenly came over him and, most importantly, why he wants us to move from being friends to being in a relationship.
Because now, with my man in the picture, this whole thing has created a very awkward tension that I canβt just ignore. π

Cancer is a big problem in our society and it almost seems like anyone can get it no matter how careful you are, but you can also do some things to protect yourself and loved ones.
Cut down:
β’ Charred suya, the black bits, processed meat, sausages and hot dogs used in shawarma etc
β’ Mouldy groundnut, maize, egusi
β’ Reused frying oil
β’ Sniper-preserved beans, formalin fish
β’ Alcohol (shayo sweet but think about the long term complications) and smoking
β’ Firewood & generator smoke indoors
β’ Skin lightening creams
Also do this:
β’ Test for Hepatitis B and vaccinate if negative, biggest cause of liver cancer in our society. Test for Hep C too (no vaccine, but itβs curable now with treatment)
β’ HPV vaccine + screening for the women you love, the biggest cause of cervical cancer in our society, and a rising cause of throat cancer
β’ Grill beside the coals, not over them
Protect yourself. Protect your family.
