Pimax Crystal Pro: you can reserve one for $1 right now

Pimax has just unveiled the Crystal Pro at its Frontier event, and the pre-order is already open.

The headline is native foveated streaming. The headset has built-in eye tracking, so it can send the sharpest image to wherever you're looking. Pimax says this sends the GPU's native image wirelessly with far less compression than usual.

What's been announced:

2880x2880 per eye on a QLED panel with Mini-LED local dimming (576 zones per eye)
110 degree horizontal field of view
72, 90 and 120Hz
Integrated eye tracking
Wi-Fi streaming included, optional 60G AirLink, or wired DisplayPort 1.4a
SLAM inside-out tracking, with optional Lighthouse support through a swappable faceplate

Pricing is $1,399 for the headset, or $1,899 with the 60G AirLink bundle.

The $1 reservation is non-refundable. It takes $20 off the headset or $50 off the bundle at launch and puts you on the Pimax waitlist. It doesn't lock in a ship date. Pimax's store says shipping starts in 2027 and exact dates are still to come.

I haven't had one on the rig yet, so everything here is what Pimax has announced, not my testing. The big questions for sim racing are how clean the centre of the view looks, how foveated streaming behaves at speed, and how the Mini-LED handles night races. I'll cover all of it once I have hands-on time.
