Excavations conducted at Ratnagiri in Odisha in 2024 revealed remarkable chapters of Buddhist heritage. The work brought to light masterful relics of the past, including majestic Buddha heads, monolithic votive stupas, Sanskrit inscriptions, a brick stupa with a crisscross design, a rectangular chaitya complex, sealings, and sculptures.

Numerous votive stupas also featured deities such as Tara, Chunda, Manjusri, and Dhyani Buddhas.

These findings offer significant new insights into the evolution of Vajrayana Buddhism in Eastern India and its links with South-East Asia.
