Premium Incentive: Up to 40% of the insurance premium, subject to a maximum of ₹1 lakh. SC/ST and women beneficiaries are eligible for an additional 10% assistance.
WSA Assistance: Assistance of up to ₹25,000 per hectare of WSA, subject to a maximum of 4 hectares and ₹1 lakh per beneficiary.
Intensive Aquaculture Systems: Premium incentive is also available for Cage Culture, RAS (Recirculatory Aquaculture System), Bio-floc, Raceways, etc., with a maximum eligible area of 1,800 cubic metres.

Bihar’s first Fish Brood Bank was inaugurated on 08 August 2026 at Raghopur Bakhri, Dumra, Sitamarhi, in the august presence of Shri Samrat Choudhary, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bihar, and Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying.
Established under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) at a cost of ₹10.92 crore across 40 acres, the Brood Bank is equipped with broodstock, nursery and rearing ponds, and a fish seed hatchery.
The facility will support the production of healthy, genetically improved brooders and quality, disease-free fish seed, including Indian Major Carps and other improved varieties. This will help enhance fish production in Bihar while reducing the State’s dependence on fish seed sourced from other States.
Dr. B. K. Behera, Chief Executive, NFDB, also attended the programme, reaffirming NFDB’s commitment to strengthening fisheries infrastructure, ensuring the availability of quality fish seed, and promoting sustainable fisheries development in Bihar.

🎓🧫 The Valedictory Session of the 5-day Skill Development Training Programme on Microbial Culture Techniques for SC Category students pursuing a Fisheries Science Degree was successfully held at the Dr. S. Ayyappan Conference Hall, NFDB, Hyderabad.
The session was graced by Dr. S. Kannappan, Senior Executive Director (SED), NFDB, and Shri P. Muthuvinayagam, Senior Executive (Tech.), NFDB, whose inspiring address encouraged students to strengthen their technical expertise and pursue excellence in fisheries and microbiology.
During the five-day programme, participants received hands-on training in microbial culture techniques, enhancing their laboratory competencies and scientific skills. They also gained valuable insights into NFDB schemes and various Government of India initiatives supporting the fisheries sector.
📜 Certificates were distributed to all participants upon successful completion of the training programme.

NFDB, Hyderabad, successfully concluded the first batch of the 5-day Hands-on Training Programme on Microbial Culture Techniques(3–7 August 2026) at AAH & QTL for SC students pursuing Fisheries Science degree programmes under the "Training & Capacity Building Programme for the SC Community" of PMMSY.
The programme combined classroom learning with practical training on microbial isolation & cultivation, total plate count, Gram staining, biochemical identification, detection of bacterial pathogens using selective media, and culture preservation.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Bijay Kumar Behera, Chief Executive, NFDB, emphasized that digital skilling is a key enabler for transforming India's fisheries sector into a knowledge-driven, technology-enabled ecosystem. He highlighted the role of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in providing inclusive, flexible, and scalable learning opportunities to fisheries stakeholders, accelerating technology adoption, strengthening human resource capacity, and fostering innovation across the fisheries value chain.
Dr. Behera further stated that digital skilling is integral to the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, helping create a future-ready workforce, enhancing employability, promoting entrepreneurship, and strengthening institutional capacity. Inauguration of Skill Development Training Programme on "Microbial Culture Techniques"
The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad, successfully inaugurated the five-day Skill Development Training Programme on "Microbial Culture Techniques" today at the Padma Shri Dr. S. Ayyappan Conference Hall (2nd Floor), NFDB Headquarters.
The programme, scheduled from 03–07 August 2026, has brought together 15 fisheries students from various Fisheries Colleges across the country, providing them with an opportunity to strengthen their practical knowledge and laboratory skills in microbial culture techniques.
The inaugural session was graced by Dr. B. K. Behera, Chief Executive, NFDB, Dr. S. Kannappan, Senior Executive Director, NFDB, and Shri Ch. Srinivas, Executive Director, NFDB, who addressed the gathering. The dignitaries emphasized the importance of skill development, hands-on laboratory training, and scientific innovation in preparing the next generation of fisheries professionals.
