Congrats to Sarah Ortiz for leading this new paper examining the effects of N fixers on neighboring plants and the mediating role of soil texture: https://t.co/1PPxUpNR1F
The Kivlin Lab @UTK_EEB is recruiting a master’s or PhD student for Fall 2023 to work on a @NSF funded project examining belowground plant-mycorrhizal fungal mutualism disruption by invasive garlic mustard. Please reach out within the next week for more details!
Colleen Schmidt published a paper from her undergrad thesis! Mirroring what we found in trees, understory symbioses at Waiakea sustained N fixation at high N supply, particularly at high light. https://t.co/KUXkn2ItxD. Congrats! w/ @FunktionalEco @Nfixers, Akana, Palmer @JEcology
Deadline Feb 1st for the InSTInCT (Inclusive Student Training in Collections and field-based Topics) summer program. Undergraduates conduct cutting-edge scientific research on the diversity of life and organisms in their natural environment.

The ideas of women scientists are just as critical and groundbreaking as those of male scientists. It’s time @smithsonian and @stri_panama recognize this by ending its culture of discrimination against women. #GenderEquity#YesAllWomen#BelieveSurvivors https://t.co/Y37gzete0M
Women face multiple barriers in Science that bring us down or push us out. The pervasive and toxic culture of sexual harassment like the one I experienced @stri_panama needs to change!

@sashajwright Great question! Not quite the question you asked about VPD, but we did do some plot-scale microclimate measurements of soil moisture and surface temperature in this experiment, and showed that those small-scale effects of diversity have cascading effects on flowering phenology.
