At Absa, we believe infrastructure is more than roads or rails, it is the backbone of economic transformation, enabling trade, investment, job creation, and regional integration.
It is why we proudly participated in the 11th East Africa Transport & Infrastructure Conference, held last week.
Representing Absa, Dan Odongo, Director & Head of Investment Banking – East Africa, shared our perspective on innovative financing, PPP models, and cross-border linkages that are critical to unlocking the region’s infrastructure potential.
We applaud the Government of Uganda, particularly the Ministry of Works & Transport, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), National Planning Authority, Uganda Railway Corporation, the Standard Gauge Railway team, and Uganda Investment Authority for their strong leadership and partnership in driving this agenda.
We also thank Bricsa Consulting, our industry partners and sponsors Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Cameroon Railways, and Linsinger Maschinenbau Gmbh for their instrumental role in making the event a success.
From insightful presentations to robust panel discussions with other players, the conference underscored the power of collaboration in shaping Eastern Africa’s infrastructure story.
At Absa, we remain committed to using finance as a force for good, empowering Africa’s tomorrow by enabling transformative infrastructure that connects communities and fuels growth.

Last week, the 34th Session of the AAK Governing Council Induction held a key leadership transition event that brought together chapter chairs, senior fellows, past presidents, and members of the secretariat for a full-day strategic engagement.
The induction programme marked the official onboarding of the 2025–2027 Governing Council. The day began with early morning networking and expectation-setting from all chapters, followed by rich sessions on governance, institutional collaboration, leadership reflections, and forward planning.
Key highlights included:
· Chapter leaders outlining their goals for the new term and reaffirming their commitment to interdisciplinary synergy.
· A candid session with Past Presidents on upholding AAK’s legacy, navigating challenges in built environment policy, and championing member-centered leadership.
· Indepth discussion of AAK’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, with a focus on sustainability, urban development, and professional regulation.
· Insightful contributions from the College of Fellows represented by the chairperson QS Aluvaala, addressing constitutional stewardship, ethical leadership, and conflict management in Council operations.
