British actor Benedict Cumberbatch recites Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish’s “On this land there are reasons to live” poem at the “Together for Palestine” event, live at OVO Arena Wembley in the UK.
Hannah Einbinder on saying "Free Palestine" in her Emmys acceptance speech.
"It is my obligation as a Jewish person to distinguish Jews from the state of Israel. Our religion and our culture is such an important and long-standing institution that is really separate to this sort of ethnonationalist state." https://t.co/D7ME3jRDEm
After the shooting at my high school you literally accused my friends and myself of being paid government crisis actors that resulted in us getting thousands of death threats. Go fuck yourself.
Hannah Einbeinder on saying “Free Palestine” during her #Emmys acceptance speech:
“It is my obligation as a Jewish person to distinguish Jews from the state of Israel because our religion and our culture is such an important and long-standing institution that is really separate to this sort of ethnonationalist state.”
“I cannot work with somebody that justifies or supports the genocide, I can’t. That’s as simple as that.”
If you think that’s a controversial statement, it’s because you support Israel’s genocide.

some anti-genocide people unfurled a Free Palestine flag behind Bernie Sanders at his rally just now and police thugs arrested them as Bernie Sanders looked on and let it happen without saying a word. A minute earlier Sanders said "Israel has the right to defend itself" and repeated his lie about "not one more nickel to Netanyahu" when he opposes sanctions and an actual arms embargo and to this day refuses to recognize the genocide
I'm defending Owen Jones. I'll tell you why
I'm writing this because, in the last couple of days, a new event in the ongoing series 'lefties hating Owen Jones' has been taking place. In the past year and a half, I've seen numerous episodes of this series, and I want to say something about it.
I never like it when an individual (as opposed to an idea or ideology) is being showered with hate. There is seldom ever good use or intent behind such rituals.
And I don't like it when it's directed at Owen Jones because I like him and his online presence and because he has used his platform for Palestine and pro-Palestinian voices like very few people have done with any weight in colonial media.
Early last year, Owen approached me after reading an article I wrote about the danger of Zionism for Jews (which only became much more evident since I published it). We had a great conversation, and many people came to know me through it. As importantly, there was nothing 'liberal Zionist' about any of this.
It's not really about me, but I have probably become one of the loudest anti-Zionist Jewish voices over the course of the genocide, and I'm an Arab Jew, which makes me and my message even harder to process for Western racist media. Owen not only did not have a problem with any of that, he was genuinely curious about my story (and very affable as a human being, which is always important).
I am not saying all this to argue that whatever Owen Jones says or does is the right thing. I disagreed with him on Syria, for instance, and that's ok. Not everyone will see everything the same way all the time.
(Zionism is not a forgivable sin after this genocide, and I am saying this with universal authority, but you cannot support violent Palestinian resistance like Hamas and have a platform in the West, and people must place themselves carefully on this spectrum, as many of us do)
I am also not saying this to dismiss prior errors and blunders if you know of any (resisting Corbyn, for instance, may be considered one, but who knew a decade ago that Britain was occupied by genocidal Zionism to the extent that we see now?).
What I am saying is that I don't think Owen deserves the hate that too often gets from left-wingers and radicals, and, politically, he has done more to promote pro-Palestine narratives than potentially anyone else in British media. So this is a self-own. Harming Owen Jones is not helping Palestine or the oppressed anywhere.
Finally, we should be really careful with accounts that find it too easy to destroy people's reputations and characters. It is never the sign of sound judgement or a sense of inner authority and power.
The only people we should really attack are those with strategic power who do evil or promote evil by doing nothing. And even then, we should remember they are not that important. People are just representative of their time and place 99.9 times of 100.
It is bad norns, beliefs, and standards that we should be focused on fighting, and we should never have this air of being beyond sin and error, which is the only way you can feel comfortable as a public inquisitor of others.
If you can be more radical than Owen Jones - by all means, be it. You'll have my blessing and support in going further. But don't waste your energy on attacking one of the few outlets for decency on Palestine that the UK has. It is neither just nor wise.
I have to acknowledge and thank you all for the energy and love you showed me last night. I’ve never seen or felt anything like what I felt at the Emirates last night.
I will never forget that.
Truly Grateful!

Mexico's left-wing President Claudia Sheinbaum (who has 80% approval) has officially recognized Palestine as a state and welcomed the Palestinian ambassador.
This is very symbolic, because Sheinbaum is Jewish. She supports Palestinian human rights and criticized Israel's attacks
