Incidentally, I believe there was some debate on the MA team about the art direction; whether to follow in the footsteps of MW4, or Mech Commander instead. @causticphoton may recall more.
@st0rmeris@causticphoton For what it's worth, this demo video isn't running in real time; it's all pre rendered out of 3DS Max, and then the VFX like smoke and explosions was comped in on top.
They were able to create something more visually "full" than the console hardware was maybe capable of then.
@causticphoton My understanding is that this top-down view was the original vision for MA, circa late '99 to mid '00. But when multiplayer came into the mix, there was a need to bring the camera down into the action and the horizon more into frame.
