A network of rank and file @NTEUNational members at Australian universities. Fighting cuts and Covid austerity. For democratic unionism and public education.
Officials later apologising for supressing horizontal democratic organisation by students. But neither should happenβ this should be good evidence against Murdoch-styled protocols. Students don't get a vote at NTEU meetings so why supress their democratic activity?
Officials policing USyd MedSci student occupation:
'The cuts today are... unjustified. When we organise a rally as we did at today's NTEU, we make collective decisions about what we're going to do in that rally ... it didn't involve an occupation of F23, maybe one day it will...'
On why stifling democratic dissent and organising in union work affects the most precarious workers highlights from @CUPUWorkers newsletter:

Issue #6 of The Fox is out!
Feat. Bullies, Dante's Inferno, VSPs?, the NTEU's Murdoch monstrosity, and plenty more casual and unemployed university yarns.

Incredibly, the protocols motion was passed by Murdoch BC in the past fortnight. It seeks to control dissent of horizontal democratic groups like NHEAN, @CUPUWorkers, @NTEUfightback and other casual or student networks within the NTEU against bad policies, e.g. the JPF.
TONIGHT: Our regular online meeting from 5.30PM. Please come along for updates and reports and building actions: https://t.co/6sGg8t15Kt
Agenda: 'form of words' reiterating the need to protect democratic structures in NTEU after 'protocols' motion passed Murdoch's BC.
Med Sci staff at @Sydney_Uni will walk off work on Wednesday! Uni management wants to sack the ENTIRE Physiology & Pathology staff and make them reapply for fewer positions. A staggering attack on crucial research & teaching in a pandemic. Support them!

Solidarity and hope to see you there.
We want to remind you to read and sign Fightback's petition against an ongoing motion to establish 'protocols' at the Murdoch NTEU branch. The draft motion sets a bad precedent allowing elected officials to be ejected. It's an anti-democratic power.
Please sign/share ASAP if you haven't already. The Murdoch BC is meeting in around half an hour.
Over 500 have signed - but we need to apply all the pressure we can to stop this outrageous proposal. Union democracy is at stake - and that affects us all!

- Tuesday NSW NTEU rally
- Friday National lunchtime NHEAN forum with guests
@DamienCahill8@Dave_Brophy@NTEUNSW Damien, the suggestion that ked to this - great! - result came from @paddygibson, who discussed it with activists in the Sydney Uni branch and at NHEAN meetings. Don't know why you'd want to downplay the input of rank and file members.
MAJOR DEVELOPMENT FOR THE RIGHT TO PROTEST: @NTEUNSW has defeated the NSW Police in the Supreme Ct. As a result, its protest against uni cuts tmrw will go ahead. Both the rally and the court process were initiatives of NTEU members in NHEAN.
