Christ is building His Church 🙌 ⛪️
A few times this entry from my journal back in 2021 has made its way into my phone memories. It was written about 10 months before we would plant New Heights.
We were naive, scared, but hopeful and believing that God could and would do something great in Newtown. That He would build His church. Looking back, I think some of that naivety and ignorance probably worked in our favor. We just trusted God and took the next step.
I had no idea the people God would bring into our lives. The people who would trust Christ. The people who would find healing through Christ. The people we would celebrate with through some of life’s greatest wins and walk alongside through some of life’s darkest valleys. I didn’t truly understand the joy or heaviness that can come with ministry or the challenge of balancing ministry, family, and life. But looking back, I’m just thankful. Thankful for all that God has done and all that He continues to do.
We still have a long way to go, but this weekend marks another step of faith for our church. Four years into this journey, I find myself still praying the same simple prayer I wrote down in 2021: “God, please use us.”
If you’re in the area and searching for answers, or maybe you’re looking to make your way back to your faith, I invite you to join us this Sunday at 31 Main Street at 9 or 11 AM. Come find the answers you’re looking for in Jesus and be a part of the story God is writing right here in Newtown, Connecticut. 🙏
🇺🇸 WHAT A DAY AT THE NEWTOWN LABOR DAY PARADE!
This year’s parade theme was “Picture Perfect,” and we were privileged to be one of this year’s sponsors and participate in the parade for the fourth consecutive year! We love our town and our community, and we’re so thankful for the 100+ New Heights volunteers who came out and helped make today so special!
Throughout the day, we were able to hand out hundreds of Gospel invitations, water bottles, candy, and more while connecting with so many people throughout our community.
Thankful for what God is doing here in New England.
Please pray for my friend and brother Jeff and his wife Lindsay. Jeff, Lindsay, and their whole family were saved, baptized, and discipled in our church 2 years ago. Since then, he has a list of 38 names in his Bible that He led to the Lord or brought to church and got saved. Last week, he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He goes to NYC today to start treatment. Our church has been praying and fasting literally 24/7 this last week asking God to heal him. Please pray for him, his wife Lindsay, and their three little kids. Thank you 🙏
Great day yesterday in the house of the God! What a blessing to have 7 little ones dedicated to the Lord as parents publicly committed to raising their children in the instruction of the Lord! Thank God for people being saved, the church house being full all summer, and for Christ building His church. All glory to Him! 🙌
Four years ago, we planted New Heights Baptist Church in Newtown, Sandy Hook, Connecticut. A town marked by heartache and one of the last places many would expect a Bible preaching church to be planted, let alone grow.
When Brandon and Brittany Capelo moved to Connecticut, they told my wife and me that God had called them to help us wherever God led Cath & I, and that they had a special burden for young people. Since day one of planting New Heights, they have sacrificed, served, and poured themselves into our church.
Much of what they do happens behind the scenes and goes unnoticed, but humanly speaking, their faithfulness has played a huge role in the growth of our church.
All of this has been done while working full time jobs, building relationships in our community, and investing in teenagers week after week. From starting a youth group from nothing four years ago, God has now allowed them to lead a thriving ministry reaching young people with the gospel in our community and surrounding area.
This past week was a powerful reminder of God's blessing on their labor. Brandon and Brittany organized and hosted our church’s own teen camp with the help of volunteers from our church. They recruited and trained workers, planned every detail, and saw more than 40 teenagers attend. Throughout the week there were three chapel services a day, morning devotions, worship, preaching, and countless opportunities for spiritual growth.
I was there for several days and watched teenagers, most who have only been saved or attending church for a short time, broken before the Lord, praying together at the altar, surrendering areas of their lives to God, and making life changing decisions. It was one of the most encouraging things I have witnessed as a pastor.
God has also opened doors for Brandon in our community. He has built relationships within the public schools and serves as a coach on a local high school football team, creating opportunities to influence and reach young people beyond the walls of the church.
God is using Brandon and Brittany in an incredible way, and it is remarkable to think that this is only the beginning. Four years in, we are already seeing fruit that only God could produce. We are so thankful for them. I cannot wait to see what God continues to do through them in reaching the next generation for Christ.
⛺️ Day 2 at Teen Camp was awesome! Preaching, devotions, worship, games, climbing, fishing, biking, and more. Pastor Zach preached on living unashamed for Christ. Thankful for salvations and decisions made this week. Pray for our teens! 🙏 #Unashamed#TeenCamp2026#newheights
⛺️ Great first day at camp for our teens! Games, activities, worship, and preaching made for an awesome start to the week. 🙌
This year's theme is #Unashamed. Pray God would work in their hearts, deepen their faith, and give them boldness to live for Christ. 🙏

We wrapped up another 14-week discipleship class last night at New Heights!
What a blessing to see believers taking intentional steps to grow in their walk with Christ. Thankful for those who committed to learning, growing, and being discipled, and we're grateful for the discipleship culture God is building in our church. 🙌
Thankful for the Continued Discipleship curriculum and the incredible blessing it has been to our church over the last four years since planting New Heights Baptist Church here in Newtown, CT. @PaulChappell

What a day in God’s house 🙌
Worship was powerful, the message was challenging, we saw 4 people put their faith in Christ, and one young adult publicly follow Jesus in believers baptism. So encouraged by what God continues to do here at NHBC! 🙌

An amazing day yesterday in the heart of Newtown, Connecticut! Our church family worked so hard serving, praying, and inviting friends, family, and neighbors from across our community.
We welcomed 48 adult guests (not including children), several from last weekend’s egg hunt, and saw over 360 unique individuals in attendance across our two morning services. Best of all, 13 souls trusted Christ as their Savior, and 4 individuals followed the Lord in baptism!
Nothing beats serving the Lord. So thankful for the greatest church family in the world and for our Savior, Jesus Christ who is alive, at work, and worthy of it all! 🙌
Celebrated New Heights 4th anniversary yesterday! Four years ago, when we planted the church, I could not have imagined what God would do through New Heights. He has done far beyond anything I prayed for or expected. Praise Him for all He has done, and we trust He is only getting started. #newheights #churchplanting #CT4Christ
