Platinum is used in jewelry, decoration and dental work. The metal and its alloys are also used for electrical contacts, fine resistance wires and medical laboratory instruments. #finerthings#NHSelements2020
Platinum is the most ductile of the pure metals, only gold is more malleable. The group of metals that platinum is apart of in the periodic table, are sometimes called the platinum group. It’s malleability allows it to be pounded into a sheet as thin as 100 atoms #NHSelements2020
@cpaul329 Actually, most of the mining for platinum occurs deep underground. To extract the mineral materials, miners pack explosives into holes drilled in the rock and blast it into smaller pieces. The broken rock is then collected and transported to the surface for processing
The majority (about 80 percent) of platinum is mined in South Africa. Approximately 10 percent is mined in Russia, and the rest is found in North and South America. If you don’t find this as an awesome fact, than you probably have a crappy element. #NHSelements2020
About 50 percent of cancer therapy patients currently use platinum-containing drugs and some of these drugs, such as cisplatin, are also used to treat tumours and cancer in animals. Platinum is considered a biologically compatible metal because it is non-toxic #NHSelements2020
Platinum is a chemical element with the symbol Pt and atomic number 78 It is a dense, malleable, ductile, highly unreactive, precious, silver/white colored transition metal. It’s name is from the Spanish term platino, meaning little silver #NHSelements2020
@francium2020 Where’s the facts? cesium is literally better than you, you’re not as rare as their natural element you always in second place. plus we are resistant to tarnishing and the best transition metal #NHSelements2020
