Teslas have excellent traction in snow, thanks to low center of gravity, instant torque & traction control that’s far more precise than gas or diesel
Tesla full stack vehicle controls enable millisecond-level traction adjustments
That way, Model Y can put power to whichever wheel has traction & engage brakes on the other wheels to pull itself up
New Model 3 Performance responds even more precisely to your inputs on the track, thanks to entirely new controls & calibration within powertrain + adaptive damping
Brake system in New Model Y has the freedom to use either electric motor or mechanical brake when you push the brake pedal
This brings you maximum efficiency, consistency in pedal behavior & improved stability
Traction control of our electric motors is much more precise compared to diesel or gas, which brings you superior traction on snow or ice
This is true even for RWD vehicles. Make sure you have appropriate tires for your climate & you’re good to go
Another post praising Tesla’s vertically integrated traction control systems with in-motor powertrain longitudinal wheel speed control… needs a few miles to calibrate after a tire swap and then it’s good to go.
Magic traction control, much of which happens right inside of the inverter to reduce ECU response / lag time
Some other automakers do this, or similar, but Tesla has mass deployed this incredible tech!
Means faster acceleration than braking in some situations + life saving / performance improving response time ⚡️

Performance-tuned chassis
Same quiet & comfortable cabin plus bespoke chassis hardware for improved stiffness and higher performance baseline.
More power, lower energy consumption
New Performance 4th gen drive unit can deliver:
+22% continuous power
+32% peak power
+16% peak torque
compared to previous Model 3 Performance. All with lower total energy consumption!
Forged & staggered 20" wheels + Pirelli P Zero 4 tires
Better traction out of corners while limiting traction control interventions.
Also, better comfort, lower rolling resistance & increased range.
Better Track Mode
Track Mode V3 now integrates motor controls, suspension controls, powertrain cooling, & our Vehicle Dynamics Controller (VDC) under a single, unified system.
This gives you a more predictable, stable & consistent experience in various track environments.
New Adaptive Damping system
Adjusts to driver & road inputs in real time to optimize ride & handling, while also improving ride comfort.
Controlled via in-house software, which means it keeps improving via future over-the-air software updates.
More aerodynamic exterior design
5% reduced drag, 36% lift reduction & 55% improvement in front-to-rear lift balance compared to previous Model 3 Performance.
New Sports Seats
Same functionality & comfort as before, but with much better lateral support for cornering & dynamic driving
We've been sharpening the pencil for Off-Road controls and that will come to the fleet in an OTA update. The Trimotor (video hero) is like off-roading in easy mode. The two dual-motor Baja trucks at the end also made it up. And it's doable without lockers, though takes more skill
After a week, I am very very impressed with the new Tesla Model 3 refresh. Tons of small updates and refinements add up to the easiest to recommend electric car in the world right now.
