So touching! I worked on Bonnie & Clyde when I was 16 & Gene was so kind to "the kid" on the set. Gracious man. And I also sat all day talking to a young actor who was very nervous about his 1 scene in the movie...Gene Wilder. Both lovely & sadly both gone. #RIPGeneHackman 💔💔💔
I was privileged to know Gene Hackman because he played tennis with another Gene—Gene Wilder. And that Gene told him about a little role called The Blind Hermit in our movie YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. He said, “Do you think Mel would let me play it? I’ve always wanted to do a comedy.” Needless to say, I was over the moon and he was perfect.
R.I.P Gene Hackman, one of the all time greats, whilst often typecast, he was an actor of real versatility and vulnerability, attaining the stature to end his career on his own terms, enjoying a decade of well earned retirement
RIP Gene Hackman (1930-2025)
He didn't look like your typical Hollywood star but he owned every scene he was in and nailed almost all the roles. He's undoubtedly one of the greatest to ever grace the medium. The World will miss him.
As Arthur Penn rightly put it,
"American movies have always had certain kinds of self-styled actors who shouldn’t be stars but are and Gene Hackman is in the company of Bogart, Tracy, and Cagney."

@MikeThornWrites It’s a tough watch at times - Stacy Keach and Susan Tyrrell are superb - and a great film. When it comes to directors successfully reinventing themselves, John Huston takes some beating
