To me... there is never a time when staff morale is irrelevant. It’s great when administrators talk to teachers enough to know not just what they’re thinking... but how they’re feeling. And then really care about it.
To stand-up a new statewide exam, it costs approx $10M. Yet, talks have already begun among certain legislators to change from ILEARN to another new exam.
AND...we question frustration re: assessment results being tied to teacher evaluation and/or accountability.
Really...
We can't quantify everything that works best for kids.
We can't say it isn't a best practice just because it can't be quantified.
I'll take a teacher that builds relationships with kids as a priority over a teacher that writes objectives on the board.

“If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to the people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person.”
At first, this American teacher thought the Finnish practice of taking 15 minute breaks for every 45 minutes of instruction was soft. Now he sees its value https://t.co/ZXHWxX44Yt #edchat#brainbreaks#teaching#elemchat#recess

What is extra alarming is that our youth are inundated more than ever before with the message, “It’s all about you”. We need to start asking the question that is not getting asked, "What did you do for others today?"
