If Cornell Police/staff withheld key information about this case from the DA there is a serious scandal on hand. If the DA had knowledge of the victims’ account as we know it now and deferred to Cornell or has a tendency of leaving sex crime cases to them as has been alleged, then they have been guilty of criminal neglect rather than just incompetence. If the accuser has changed her statement significantly enough to have gone from leaving nothing to prosecute to where we are now, that does not dismiss her claims but certainly raises additional questions and possibly absolves Cornell and the DA. But that does not seem to be all that’s happening now with the DA’s comments. Why don’t we know where things stand and more importantly, why wouldn’t the DA know? The Cornell police cannot be expected to handle the most serious of matters on their own, the DA office has to be effective in this sense but obviously cannot be if they are being obstructed in any way.
What is going on in Ithaca? Why has CBS News been able to read (but not release) the Cornell rape case transcript but not the DA???

Data centers’ fate should not be determined solely at the level of the community that holds them. Politicians on both sides of the aisle including President Trump are now promoting the solution to the mass data center concerns that the plants should be decided by and in benefit of those in the vicinity. The issue here is that ecology is not confined to a proximity only, what effects the data centers have on the Earth will be felt elsewhere also. Therefore, national and state regulations also must be considered with these resource-expensive expanses, even though this is being shied away from - not because of a lack of popular support in confronting these issues, but rather because of the assumed economic and competitive costs ultimately associated with limiting growth in the field.
Pete Buttigieg says “of course” John Fetterman should stay in the Democratic Party, praises the issues he originally ran on, then pivots to blaming the Trump economy all without stopping for a breath. It’s hard to determine what values will last in the party when someone who disregards what are regarded as uncompromisable positions is backed by the same party heads who support those positions. Fetterman supported Markwayne Mullin in his nomination as DHS Secretary last year as the deciding vote on the senate committee for the like.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – Independent in the Cabinet
For years RFK Jr. has practiced law in New York State and California*, working mostly with issues of environmental protection. In 2024, after a presidential bid as a democrat, then independent, Kennedy agreed to endorse Trump in his presidential campaign while accepting Trump’s promise of an appointment as the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The discussions leading to this deal began just hours after the assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, PA, and included comments from Trump that revealed his belief that injuries stem from the regular childhood vaccine schedule. When Trump was elected president he held true to his promise, nominating Kennedy for the post of HHS Secretary. In the process however, RFK Jr. had to negotiate compromise in order to gain enough favor with Senate Republicans to be confirmed into the cabinet, notably with the Chair of the Senate Health+ Committee Senator (and former practicing doctor) Bill Cassidy of Mississippi. Notably, no democratic senators voted to confirm Kennedy despite his lack of party affiliation.
While Kennedy has been limited in his capacities by the politics needed to maintain favor with the senate and national administration, he has remained an independent in his new position. This is a remarkable departure from the status quo of our government. In the Trump administration, Kennedy is the only independent in a cabinet-level position. In the senate, the lone independents are Angus King and Bernie Sanders. As an independent, Kennedy continues to champion views on bodily autonomy and other civil liberties that adherents of either major political party do not represent. These views have caused conflict with Senator Cassidy, who will retire at the end of his term in January of next year. The future of Kennedy as the Secretary of Health and Human Services therefore likely rests on who will become the next committee chair upon Cassidy’s departure. Leadership of senate committees is determined by the majority party of the senate, and this years’ elections look favorable to Republicans, with two democratic seats up for reelection in states that Trump won in 2024, and with no Republican seats up in states that Harris won. The future of the committee therefore probably sits with a Republican padawan, which is where things get interesting. Currently Rand Paul is set to take over the committee as the next most senior member after Cassidy, and he is not up for reelection until 2028. Paul, long known for his libertarian views like his father Ron previously in congress, has shared criticism of Dr. Fauci with Kennedy, alongside other discontent with the way the COVID-19 outbreak was handled by our federal government. His father Ron has likewise shared opinion with former Kennedy running mate Nicole Shanahan, and she has gone as far as to describe him as a kind of mentor. Should Rand Paul (also a former doctor) become head of the Health+ committee, libertarian ideals may have a more significant impact on the way our nation deals with health, regardless of whether or not the populace supports such measures.
*Kennedy maintains that he is a citizen of New York State by right to domicile, as evidenced by his 2024 trials.

@ELITE_Fantasy_@Tonysmarkettips What kind of situation did she put herself in? Talking to men? Whose business is that it’s not like she’s accused of stealing information.
@DNIGabbard You may be able to convince the American people that these are our biolabs, but you’re not convincing the rest of the world. It may be our money, but at this scale why would we have any reason to believe the intelligence is of particular value to or holding of for only the U.S.?
@NancyMace That’s not to say I wouldn’t agree with a property tax easement for seniors in a scenario where that is far and away the principle tax. I just don’t think that is the area where the tax burden should be pulled from as is.
@NancyMace Historically, property tax movements have had their moments in the United States, including with Henry George, who believed the value of one’s work should remain with the individual. A lessened tax burden on work could certainly provide added incentive for it, and clear job waste
@FactsfromAvalon@EricLDaugh If you want to squeeze out the large firms from owning lots of homes, then you make them a worse investment by increasing the cost by having the tax burden moved towards property. Homes would become more of a cost that people would still demand for their obvious personal value.
@FactsfromAvalon@EricLDaugh Also, if there is a finite supply of homes that can’t accommodate the entire population, the homestead measures would actually make it more difficult for many who can’t afford to ever own. This is since those who would own the homes would have a great economic asset.
@EricLDaugh We need to support measures that allow for a healthy free market economy. We pay taxes because we are a part of a society where our efforts, needs, and wants are shared. Why should people be taxed on what they contribute rather than on what they take?
@EricLDaugh And it doesn’t correlate completely with the economic potential of the land. Land could be owned simply to provide a barrier of entry to competitors in a market, subsequently creating an economically inefficient situation like you see in command economies.
