@ShabanaMahmood@metpoliceuk Within one week as Home Sec, Mahmood is hated by the whole nation upsetting both Palestine supporters and genocide apologists
@DanielPriestley@garyseconomics There is no such thing as “money being taxed already”. Don’t accuse someone of not sharing facts when you can’t get that simple concept right.
@DiscePuer@jgsmuzzy@afneil Anyone can go. Not everyone should go or do go.
And yes house prices by good schools is a problem, but there are measures to mitigate if bold enough government. Aim higher.
@abbeylinegold@afneil Just private schools fees (paid by parents not kids) as they deepen inequality. The others are accessible to all, provide financing, perform research and don’t increase inequality. Private school education provides enormous life advantageous. I’d add more taxes than just VAT!
@DiscePuer@jgsmuzzy@afneil Eh? Pretty much anyone can go to uni, if they want and get a loan to cover it. Not so with private school. Private schools existence also negatively affect state schools children creating segregation in society (in education and carrying over into workplace etc).
@jgsmuzzy@afneil Universities serve us all and students have access to financing. They also perform research etc. Private schools creates a two-tier system and provides colossal advantages to their pupils, beyond just education. Is that not enough? No, they must get tax breaks too! Pure greed.
@Ebure1971@DebateOnFacts@afneil Eh? Yes they can now claim back input VAT, which presumably they couldn’t before. But they would be charging way more than they would be able to claim back (fees are way more than their VAT rated expenses. Payroll is a big cost which is has no VAT so no VAT claim back there).
@WillesdenFrog@afneil It far from works. We have a bunch of amazing schools for tiny amount of kids. Other countries have great schools for all kids. Let’s aim for that.
@DebateOnFacts@afneil 1. They are businesses, wrongly given charitable status.
2. I doubt it.
3. When austerity is imposed on the working class masses it’s “unfortunate tough choices”. Doesn’t apply to rich families though?
4. Great. We are finally ahead of the game.
@afneil Rubbish. Outside your snobbish bubble, everyone educated in state schools (the large majority) ALWAYS described it is a tax break. And it factually is a tax break; an exemption to taxes. No new taxes are being created.
@elonmusk “Indeed” on free speech… says the guy using this platform that he bought to become the dictator of the “town hall” transforming it as his personal mouth piece and to pump his products.
