At that point, picking where you sit should be included.

When flying from Sydney to LAX in business a very nice trick one can do is fly from Auckland or Christchurch instead.. Can sometimes be 1/3rd of the price or even more

The best way to get some major cost savings when flying is splitting up ticket fares (e.g. sometimes it may be cheaper to book two one way tickets compared to a return, or if its a long journey, flying to the hub point on one ticket and then booking a seperate ticket.
