My favourite detail from the Times piece on AI cheating: a student submitted an essay citing Michelangelo as the author of a 2017 book on the Kurds. The professor's verdict — "sadly, I'm sure the more devious students know this and edit accordingly."
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Universities appear to have no real sense of how to meet the challenge of where we now find ourselves.

@ChopsyBristol There was never any discussion of whether anyone actually thought these books were a good story and enjoyable.
I've learnt more about writing in my post GCSE years through means such as writing articles for publication.

@ChopsyBristol I always felt English exams were the worst assessment I ever sat.
I had no idea what the markers were looking for in the language exams but at least with literature if you could spot similies and onomatopoeia you were on to a winner (1/2)
