@Literallyinsand@TitusFrieling@atlanticesque Your argument hinges on a lot of contingencies and I wouldn't cosign such a malignant force as communism to try and achieve something like land reform. You could also say land reform would've been more viable had those governments not been threatened by communists
@TitusFrieling@atlanticesque The counterfactual is difficult to engage with, who knows what might've happened. But I'd say even though the Nazis did a lot for economic recovery in Germany, that shouldn't motivate us to say Nazi movements are worth pursuing anywhere.
@TitusFrieling@atlanticesque Also a strong argument that US resistance in Vietnam prevented other SE Asian countries like Malaysia, the Phillipines and Singapore from falling, so the war actually achieved a larger strategic victory even though South Vietnam fell.
@esjesjesj You can love America while advocating new policy. Plenty of patriotic people have passed legislation. It's when you're fervently and destructively anti-American that it becomes a problem that's morally disqualifying.
@JohnReed_1917 Imagine having a thoughtful opinion beyond "America bad." Wouldn't that be cool? You could go deeper than level 1 in a conversation, talk about the real world, what a breath of fresh air that would be!
@onligrikdefne Because it's every socialist state that commits atrocities and they use ideology to justify it. Capitalist countries might also do bad things, but it's always been contingent, not because of ideology. Capitalism isn't an ideology.
@StephanieGailW@TheOmniLiberal Oh she found the 2015 tweet! Literally more then a decade old. If you have a real reason to dislike someone, you should have something more recent than 11 years ago, otherwise it's just brainless campism.
@gaslightyourmom Probably. People use "accountability" a lot and it would be different depending on whatever the person did. Leaving it ambiguous let's you always say they didn't do enough
