Check out my op-ed on why I'm pushing to limit screen time in @LASchools. My resolution aims to create developmentally appropriate guidelines that balance access to technology with the kinds of instruction and interaction we know help students thrive. https://t.co/q7dYXzE4WQ
The LA housing crisis has a direct impact on our ability to recruit and retain school staff, and I have been pushing for @LASchools to be part of the solution. Check out the proposed renderings presented as part of today’s exciting step forward.
The LAUSD Board voted today to QUADRUPLE the number of workforce housing units with two new projects on District-owned sites that are currently sitting empty, both in my district.
We’ve already proven this partnership works, and LAUSD is ready to dramatically expand it. Sometimes solving a big problem doesn’t mean building something new—it can be as simple as unlocking a gate.

Today the @LASchools Board unanimously approved my resolution to expand Community School Parks. LA ranks 93rd among the 100 largest US cities in park space, but we have hundreds of school campuses with playgrounds, fields, & open spaces sitting behind locked gates every weekend.
Melvoin said the settlement helps set an “evidentiary record” for LAUSD’s pending case against social media companies...[and] called on states and Meta to enforce the terms of the agreement so that students do not find workarounds for restricted features. https://t.co/uwJBXRueFg

My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and the Muslim community devastated by yesterday’s horrific attack in San Diego. No one should have to live in fear of gun violence—especially in their places of worship or schools.
