Get cell phones out of classrooms so our students can focus on learning without the distractions that smartphones and social media bring. Multiple studies have shown the negative effects that smart phone usage has on our kids. It’s been proven to have a negative effect on attention, behavior, and comprehension. While these devices have their benefits, they don’t belong in the classroom. This week the Kansas House passed SB 281 which bans cell phones in classrooms and requires them to be turned off and locked away during the school day. The bill now moves to the Senate and I hope they quickly get it to Governor Kelly’s desk where she has indicated she will sign it. I truly think this bill is one of the most important issues in the legislature and will have a significant positive impact on our kids and the future of education in our state.

Please remember the Prairie Village Police Department has a
dedicated Safe Exchange Zone located in the parking lot of the municipal complex by city hall.
It is marked with green painted parking spots and is under 24/7 video surveillance.
We encourage the public to use this Safe Exchange Zone when conducting sales
transactions rather than bringing people to your house.
Make sure you get out and vote today. Regardless of the outcome let’s all remember the golden rule. Respect others even though their opinions might differ.
