After rewriting about 7 thousand words and adding a few more, I crossed 35k words this morning in my novel.
All the news about Flock cameras and sight implants both fueling and validating some of the ideas I'm exploring in this near future sci-fi story.

30k words into my novel. People keep asking me what it's about. And while I'm not giving away the story just yet, I can give you some stories I've recently experienced that have been particularly inspiring:

The Road by Cormac McCarthy (Came for the road trip, stayed for the prose and commentary -- despite the darkness, and remembered for its hope and love)

The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan (mostly for the road trip nature of the story)

To Kill a Mockingbird (for it's first person perspective, Southern charm, commentary, and the young female protagonist)

Holes by Louis Sachar (for its timeline jumping)

Hatchet by Gary Paulsen (for its first person narration and interiority)

After a few weeks of daily writing, I've crossed 26,000 words on my new sci-fi novel.

It began as a way to process the stresses of our modern world. AI, data centers, and corporate deceit. But its slowly turning into a story about how we connect in a world of distrust.
