Check out my Music Publishing Guide - hoping to give people some good, real-world info that isn't unnecessarily detailed / takes too much time to read. I plan on updating this every once in awhile with info/knowledge that people are asking for.

@BrianZisook My advice is always: Do an admin deal. Get paid. If & when those big offers come…you might not need or want it…because you are already getting paid consistently, and own your catalog.
The biggest effect coming from the UMG TikTok feud is not the removal of its artists -- its the removal of its *songwriters*
Metadata issues and other publishing complexities means this might take a while to takedown but it is technically on the way

A fact I still love: because Tracy Chapman wrote “Fast Car” by herself and owned her pub, she is technically considered the 8th largest publisher on the Hot 100 for Q2 of 2023 lol

Timing is always important. Make sure yours is perfect! And in our game “perfect” really means proactive. So… you put 2 and 2 together ✍️

Several years ago I was told less than 1% of their registrations were going through in France…this is like publishing spam, eventually places are going to block because resources and bandwidth get wasted.

This year NBA Youngboy was the youngest (23) act to join the "100 Hits on Hot 100 " club with 103 on Billboard. What's even more amazing is his business with his producers/writers. We've always received the proper payment/paperwork from his team. I hope he has a long career!
Producers are taken advantage of a lot…but where producers are getting screwed over the most is not being paid producer royalties from all these distribution companies who hide behind the deals with the artists.
They haven't been registering songs since 2020? That's insane. But - they haven't turned off signups. Taking $100 everyone they can.
These types of signup fee based companies will keep popping up, the outcome will likely be the same. Then people will use the newer shinier one.
@IsabelleWalsh18 so they told me they had to stop registering since November 2020 to check the copyright issues and now because of backlog it takes 2 months to catch up including MLC
at this point i have to to take their words for it and wait as i cant really do anything and have no other options
If you aren't familiar with the term: one-stop shop is where a music supervisor can clear a song through one company, and not through multiple publishers / writers. The artist & producer need to be under the same pub company, & the artist also needs to be independent.
