Our official photographer @Roy10Tan had a look behind the scenes yesterday at the West End launch for @kinkyboots_uk starring @jojo_radebe & @MattCardle. The show runs at the @LondonColiseum from 17 Mar-11 Jul
Watch out for Roy’s exclusive pics from the shoot, coming soon!
Delroy Lindo called it “a classic case of something that could be very negative becoming very positive.”
For families living with Tourette’s, this past week has not felt positive.
Since the BAFTAs and what happened with John Davidson, I have been arguing that my son deserves to leave his home and be included in society like everyone else.
I have had to explain, again and again, that Tourette’s is neurological.
That tics are involuntary.
That coprolalia is not belief, not intent, not character.
Yet the conversation keeps circling back to whether people like John, and by extension my son, should simply stay home to avoid offending anyone.
Stay home.
Remove yourself.
Do not attend events.
Do not exist publicly in case your disability makes someone uncomfortable.
That is the reality this week.
This is not abstract for me. My son already navigates anxiety and the constant fear of being misunderstood. Inclusion cannot mean only if your disability is convenient. It cannot mean you are welcome as long as you do not embarrass us.
My son deserves to leave the house.
He deserves to attend events.
He deserves to exist in public.
And I am exhausted from having to argue that basic truth.
@BBCNews The @BBCNews and @BAFTA should be apologising to John and the cast of I Swear. The film was about bringing awareness about Tourette’s syndrome and now you’ve let the whole Tourettes community down. My son an adult stays indoors all the time due to discrimination about his tics!
@MarcJohn_Oxford@BBCNews Cause of people like you my son spends his whole life alone. He’s never offended anyone! Try living with Tourette’s and watch the film I Swear you may learn something!
This intelligent young Black woman with Tourette’s Syndrome explains the incident at the BAFTAs and how Tourette’s affects the person living with the condition.
Her race shouldn’t need mentioning, but unfortunately too many people have reacted emotionally to this situation and need a Black woman to explain why someone with Tourette’s who is white is not vocalising profanities toward Black people simply because they’re racist.
We need more logic and critical thinking, as this woman brilliantly demonstrates, and fewer snap judgements driven solely by emotion.
@virginmedia@MelinaKakoulid7 Then need a stupid password for your own account. Why would you want to talk about someone’s else’s account. Surely home details should be enough.
