Spent the afternoon with someone who
1. Only talks about themselves
2. Never thinks to ask about you
3. When you try to change the topic, without fail they will immediately relate it back to themselves.
I am so emotionally drained, I can barely function now.
@triginbrew I would definitely use "hung" for things such as stockings. But in this case I'm specifically referring to people being hung by a rope about their necks. I'd always thought "hanged" was the specific word for that - e.g. the tarot card "The Hanged Man" instead of "The Hung Man".
A line from my medieval fantasy: "Your father hanged thieves back in the day."
My editor changed it to "hung".
My gut says that's not right? Thoughts? Is it a difference between American and British English?

@wendyparciak The thing is, self-publishing one book doesn't preclude you from querying future books... so I don't necessarily see 1 and 2 as mutually exclusive from a "writing career" point of view, you know?
@doloughlin32 I'm basically at that stage too after 2 years of querying. Now I'm staring into the abyss of self-promotion and trying to figure out how on earth I can give my book a fighting chance on the Amazon algo when I self-pub. The fight continues... good luck with yours!
@MagicalHippo I'm still querying one of my MSs but I've finally made the decision to self-pub the other one (after about 100 queries and almost no full requests). Now I'm in the petrified stage of trying to figure out this self-pub/self-promotion business.
Do you plan to keep querying?
@haydendreaming Can totally emphathise with that! I've finally given up on trad after querying my first book off and on for 2 years, and now I'm mentally steeling myself to self-pub. The main thing is to keep going, eh? Hope you're enjoying your new project!
@doloughlin32 I feel you. After 2 years in the trenches I feel incredibly jaded about the publishing industry, which we all know isn't all (or even mostly?) about the writing.
Keep your head high and keep reminding yourself that you're a writer because you're passionate about your writing.
