The #GAC Council conclusions confirm that the @EU_CoR vision on #CohesionPolicy has been heard.
Cohesion Policy must remain well-funded to achieve its goals as the main EU investment tool.
⤵️ The CoR welcomes the Member States' support for @CoR_President & @Emil_Boc opinion:
The EU cannot survive without cohesion policy.
With a bold reform, flexibility, partnership and simplification, cohesion policy can continue to play its role as a long term, transformational and structural policy.
Together with @Emil_Boc, we put forward a clear proposal ⤵️
It is cities and regions who make Europe everyday.
In the moments of crisis and to face the challenges ahead, we are there for people where they live.
The #SOTEULocal address shows their strength and vision ⤵️

Furthermore, we discussed the current midterm review proposal for the EU's long term budget and how cohesion policy can remain the EU's long term investment policy while allowing for sufficient agility in case of new emerging needs. (3/3)
This was one more opportunity to demonstrate what the local and regional level in Europe has achieved, how cities and regions can support Ukraine's reconstruction and what local and regional authorities expect for the future.(2/3)
Important exchange with the President of the European Commission, @vonderleyen.
We discussed top priorities for the European Commission and the @EU_CoR and how we can together strengthen the link between EU policies & the realities on the ground, in cities & regions. (1/3)
The ongoing work of the @EU_CoR and the #CohesionAlliance to renovate Cohesion Policy is more important now than before if it is to continue to be the main investment policy for all regions, and to ensure no territory is left behind on their path to a sustainable future.
Whilst it is essential the EU supports strategic technologies, today's proposals call for an in-depth rethink of the EU investment framework.
Prospects of recentralisation of EU funds for investment & reshuffling of existing funds put key objectives such as cohesion at risk.
The #MFF midterm review proposal is followed with interest by all regions, cities and the @EU_CoR.
I welcome the suggested financial aid to #Ukraine being part of the midterm review as well as the new own resources proposal.
If we break cohesion policy, we may still have a European Union, but it will not move forward the same way.
The question should always be also what kind of solution we want to face the challenges in front of us. Cohesion policy is the answer.

👏 @CoR_President and @Emil_Boc join forces as co-rapporteurs for the opinion on the future of cohesion policy.
Our work towards strengthening cohesion policy continues! #CohesionAlliance
#GAC | We need to strengthen and reinforce the core principles of #CohesionPolicy as a long term, structural policy delivered in partnership with regions and cities, whilst preparing an 'aggiornamento' to make it more efficient and simpler to deliver in our cities and regions.

@fmolica Indeed. Agreed on all points. I would also add that it is quite telling that the EC pointed out in no uncertain term that there would be no 'golden rule' to exclude investment from EU fiscal rules (in the Q&A section)... let alone ESI funds co-financing.
