Sound doctrine never leads anyone to sin, nor does it make anyone immune to temptation.
Nor is sound doctrine an end unto itself; it makes the gospel clear, it exalts and extols Christ, and it holds him out as the only hope for sinners.
We look to him. Always.
Paul’s “rapture” text isn’t about escape. It’s about royal arrival.
“The Lord Himself will descend… and we will be seized up… in the clouds to meet the Lord.” (1 Thess 4:16–17)
Those clouds aren’t weather. They are the Glory‑Cloud — the theophanic presence of the enthroned Lord, the same cloud that filled Sinai, the tabernacle, the temple. Kline called it the Glory‑Spirit, the visible form of heaven’s court breaking into history (Kline Images of the Spirit).
Jesus said the same thing: “They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matt 24:30) This is not evacuation. This is the final theophany.
The saints are not removed from the world. They are seized (ἁρπαγησόμεθα) into the royal entourage — the covenant people going out to greet the descending King in imperial‑visit procession.
And this moment is the reversal of Eden. Adam heard the sound of the LORD God coming in the garden (Gen 3:8) and hid.
At the parousia, the saints do not hide from the Glory‑Presence. They are drawn into it — into the cloud‑court, into the royal procession, into the public arrival of the Warrior‑King.
Not escape. Escort.
Not disappearance. Royal procession.
Not a secret rapture. The public advent of the Son of Man with the Glory‑Cloud of heaven.
