The @newtforce mound helps to bring us instant, actionable data for our athletes.
In this particular case, the athlete is beginning with a knee first move creating more of a squat rather than a hinge.
Why is the hip hinge important? It is possibly the number one influencer of velocity, adjustability and command! The hinge movement occurs when all of the muscles around the hip co-contract, helping to keep the pelvis tilted and the femur centered until hip internal rotation occurs.
Building movement capacity with the waterball helps to teach a pitcher how to manage their back hip. Designing training experiences that provide loud information for the athlete is key. Exposure to powerful, rapid, and unpredictable force will demand and elicit the co-contractions necessary to limit degrees of freedom and stabilize the back hip.
.@MizzouBaseball's most dependable reliever last spring, @brock_lucass emerged to post a 3.63 ERA and a .215 opponent batting average in 39.2 innings.
