A RESOLUTION LIKE NO OTHER;
A MOMENT LIKE NO OTHER.

Today, before the United Nations, the world will be asked to answer for what history has long tried to outrun.

For centuries, the trafficking and racialised chattel enslavement of Africans have been spoken of in the past tense as though time alone could heal what was never repaired.

But the truth remains:
the consequences are still with us.

Today, Ghana stands before the world not in silence, not in apology, and not in fear, but in truth.

This is not about sympathy.
This is not about ceremony.
This is about accountability.

From the dungeons of Elmina and Cape Coast…
To the millions who passed through the Door of No Return…
To generations still living with the scars of dispossession, injustice and historical erasure…

We are not asking for charity.
We are asserting a right.

As President John Dramani Mahama has rightly said,
“Reparatory justice will not be handed to us. Like political independence, it must be asserted, pursued and secured through determination and unity.”  

This moment is bigger than Ghana.
It is bigger than Africa.

It is a test of humanity’s conscience.

Because a world that does not reckon honestly with its gravest crime risks losing its moral voice forever.

The trafficking and enslavement of Africans was not merely an African tragedy.
It was a human failure.
And the call for reparatory justice is not a cry for revenge, it is a demand for truth, dignity, accountability and healing.

Today, remembrance must become resolve.
Today, history must meet justice.
Today, the world is called to act.

We are on the cusp of victory.

Great global solidarity for justice, yesterday.

The humanity and dignity of our ancestors and all Africans shall be restored.

Today the United Nations votes on Ghana’s Resolution to affirm what cannot be denied, twisted or silenced — that the transatlantic slave trade is the gravest crime against humanity.

As a Master’s student in International Relations and an educator based in Kyrgyzstan, I found this engagement particularly significant for strengthening Ghana–Central Asia relations.

An amazing discovery in Kyrgyzstan.

I found out a Ghanaian by name Joel Kojo is the star striker in the Kyrgyz national team.

This came to light during our bilateral meetings when the Kyrgyz President and Foreign Minister both disclosed that Joel was their favorite footballer and a national hero.

Joel Kojo was apparently encouraged to switch nationality to play for the Kyrgyz national team known as the White Falcons.

Joel Kojo received an award as the best Kyrgyz player in 2025 and is also the nation’s all time best scorer. He was exceptionally instrumental in qualifying them for the Asian Cup.

Another much talked about Ghanaian, Emmanuel Yaghr plays in the Kyrgyz local league.

Following the pleasant revelations during our bilateral meetings yesterday, I requested to meet the two celebrated players today, and it was beautifully arranged.

I am grateful to the Kyrgyz Football Association for the efficient facilitation, warm reception and the customized Kyrgyz national team jersey.

And guess what: Joel Kojo surprised me by disclosing that he is originally a constituent from Juapong in my beloved North Tongu. Small world indeed!

Both countries have agreed to pursue bilateral cooperation in football development.

Proud of these young Ghanaians and the growing Ghanaian community in Kyrgyzstan.
