This weekend in Dallas, our SPORTSINQ group combined a FIFA World Cup match experience with peer-to-peer knowledge sharing among leaders from sport, business and education.

From early morning conversations over coffee to experiencing the atmosphere at AT&T Stadium, the best insights often come from sharing perspectives and learning from each other.

Sport is more than a game. It is a platform for leadership, innovation and connection.

Hoe is het met @siemdejong?- SLP7

Siem maakt sinds twee jaar een opvallende ontwikkeling door buiten het veld na zijn profcarrière. Als management trainee bij AFC Ajax bereidt hij zich stap voor stap voor op een toekomstige bestuurlijke functie, met als uiteindelijke doel: algemeen directeur worden (het liefst bijde club waar hij zijn grootste successen vierde). Tegelijkertijd bouwt hij aan maatschappelijke impact als co-founder van Teamplayers, dat recent samenging met sportmarketingbedrijf More2Win.

Waarom deed je mee aan het SLP-programma?

De deelname aan de zevende editie van het SLP-programma was voor Siem onderdeel van zijn traineeship bij Ajax. Maar zijn motivatie ging verder dan een formele stap in zijn opleiding: “Ik wilde deze jaren benutten om een sterke eigen visie te ontwikkelen die ik later echt kan toepassen. Een deel van die visie heeft via het SLP-programma kleur gekregen.”

In zijn huidige rol observeert en analyseert hij nauwgezet hoe het binnen de organisatie van Ajax werkt. “Ik werk veel samen met de directie in een strategisch team. Dit is voor mij echt een leerfase, waarin ik me verdiep in bestuurlijke vraagstukken, governance en strategie. Ik blijf ook binding houden met de voetbal kant, zo loop ik ook mee bij jeugdteams en train ik soms zelfs mee met O17 en O15.”

Wat hem het meest is bijgebleven van het programma?

“Dat we nadrukkelijk keken naar governance en verschillende manieren van leidinggeven. In het programma, en eigenlijk in mijn hele fase na mijn actieve carrière,ben ik bewuster geworden van wat je allemaal tijdens je carrière leert. Als speler en aanvoerder heb je veel zaken op gevoel gedaan, intuïtief. Maar nu leer ik ze echt begrijpen en benoemen. Om zo bewuster te zijn van je leiderschaps vaardigheden en kwaliteiten.”

Die verschuiving blijkt essentieel in zijn nieuwe rol als toekomstig bestuurder. Hij wil niet slechts handelen op ervaring, maar een doordachte visie ontwikkelen die richting kan geven aan beleid en cultuur. “Het SLP-programma bood daar stevige bouwstenen voor.”

Social impact en lange termijnstrategie

Een van de meest waardevolle onderdelen vond hij de social impact module in Londen. “Daar werd echt diep ingegaan op hoe sport kan worden ingezet om community’s te verbinden en te versterken. Dat sloot ook aan bij mijn werk bij More2Win, waar sportmarketing wordt gebruikt om échte maatschappelijke impact te maken. Bij Ajax hebben wij hier ook veel aandacht voor en zie je dat wij hierin blijven groeien. Dat vind ik belangrijk en erg mooi om te zien.”

Ook de High Performance module maakte indruk: “Wat ik daar meeneem is hoe belangrijk het is dat je vertrekt vanuit een sterke visie. Vanuit die visie bouw je aan performancebeleid, waarop je mensen selecteert. Niet andersom. Je beweegt weg van de waan van de dag, richting een duurzame, lange termijn strategie.”

SportsInQ joins ZonMw research consortium and welcomes Simone van de Kraats OLY to the team

We’re proud to share that SPORTSINQ is now part of a national ZonMw-funded research consortium driving two groundbreaking projects over the next two years: one focused on the inspirational and connecting power of elite sport, and the other on its visibility and societal value.

We’re also thrilled to welcome Simone van de Kraats OLY, a core member of the Dutch national water polo team, to our team. Simone joins as program coordinator on behalf of SPORTSINQ. With her experience as an elite athlete, she will contribute directly to the research and help develop learning programs for athletes who want to make a meaningful social impact.
