20 minutes from my apartment. In a neighborhood where I worked every day for 2 years. This is what emboldened bigotry and extremism look like.
We are in a very dark chapter in Florida’s history.
Question no one is asking about “work requirements” for assistance: why are jobs paying so little that people with jobs need assistance to pay for rent and groceries?
No, I do not think that Trump being held liable for sexual abuse and defamation will change a single Republican vote.
Because Republicans have proven, many times over, that they will support sexual predators if those men promise to use power to take away rights from women.
It makes me incredibly angry and frustrated and sad that Biden keeps expanding fossil fuel production and infrastructure, in direct opposition to the clearest science. What are climate scientists supposed to do? We are losing Earth, folks. We must force our leaders to stop.
There is simply no way CNN can feign ignorance about the fact that they set up a sexual assault victim to be targeted and attacked on national television a day after the verdict.
People were sounding the alarm about this exact scenario. They let it happen anyway without a plan.
@SCMountainGoat@ninaturner The market would be enslaving people if the government didn’t prevent it. They *are* enslaving people in the area (prisoners) the government carved out. The government must step up and protect its citizens from market exploitation.
BREAKING: Former President Trump found liable for sexually abusing and defaming E. Jean Carroll. Jury awards Caroll $5 million. https://t.co/qRHKgpwKQi
They literally protested so much that Republicans had a meltdown and expelled 2 Democratic lawmakers and then the lawmakers regained their seats... and kept protesting.
In just the past week, we’ve seen people argue that Jordan Neely deserved to die instead of asking what we as a society should do to ensure people don’t go hungry or unhoused.
We’ve seen people argue over what the shooter’s motive was in Allen, TX instead of asking why he was able to attain a weapon that can kill so many in such a short period of time.
Now with the tragedy in Brownsville, when police say they’re unsure if the driver was targeting migrants, we’re seeing people argue about immigration.
Where has our collective humanity gone?
*average of 600 mass shootings a year happen over 3 year span*
no way to fix this :(
*trans people exist*
64 anti-trans bills passed, 376 currently active
Also: Seeing a lot of blowback to WaPo and WSJ saying Mauricio Garcia may have had white supremacist ties, given his race. So periodic reminder that there's a long history of POCs advancing and supporting Nazi/white supremacist goals/ideology.
Watching media give the Brock Turner treatment for the killing of a homeless man has been nauseating.
A person having a record does not excuse killing them. Neither does being poor, sick, or homeless.
Virtually every one of us is closer to being in Neely’s shoes than we think.
