Is this the moment we can finally fix social care?
For the sake of millions of carers and our loved ones who need care, I will do everything I can to make it happen.

Ed Davey has cared for his mother, his grandmother, and now his son.
As cross-party talks on social care begin, he argues it can be fixed by finally putting the millions of unpaid family carers at the heart of any deal.
The sea surface temperature anomalies developing in the eastern Pacific are absurd.
El Nino wont peak until later this year and it’s already looking rather extreme.
Hi all,
In order to motivate Year 11 we’re increasing their targets by three full grades. We’ll also be forcing them to attend extra classes in all subjects, 3 hours before and 4 hours after school every day. If that doesn’t improve our results nothing will.
Thanks x
Hi all,
It looks like we will be changing the name of our Gianni Infantino Centre for Sporting Excellence back to the Harry Redknapp Sports Hall as our CEO’s World Cup sponsorship deal seems to have fallen through.
Thanks x
And although it’s rainfall (or complete lack of it) making the headlines, looks like July was also record breakingly hot.
Both England and Wales look like exceeding their all time mean temperature records.
Some southern areas more than 3.5°C above normal.
Hi all,
Some pupils are still not on target in every subject. From September, any child below target will be issued with a motivational keyring that says “You are the CEO of your own success”. SLT will drop into lessons to ensure that the keyrings are always visible.
Thanks x
Today one Russian paper claims that Ukrainian strikes “haven’t yet caused Russia damage that could be regarded by the authorities as a reason to compromise.” Meanwhile, Russian “agriculture is plunging into crisis…construction already deep in the red.” #ReadingRussia
In the 105 years up to this year Bordeaux recorded temperatures of 40°C or higher on a total of 5 occasions.
In 2026 it’s happened 6 times.
And it’s still July.
If that doesn’t concern you, there’s something wrong with you.

Ah yes, the Mediterranean. Famous this decade for its idyllic wildfires, water rationing and 45°C summers. Sign me up.
Quite possibly the stupidest argument ever committed to newsprint.
What's next: Britain can't stop global crime. Scrap the police and embrace the Wild West.
According to the Guardian, George Cottrell transferred $2m to his mother days before her Reform donations. To be fair, lots of adult children move out of their parents’ house but still get them to do their laundry
1/10
El Niño is continuing to strengthen across the Pacific in what is very likely to be a record breaking strong event.
Over the next 1-2 years, average global temperatures are expected to increase (likely to new all time records) with the potential for severe weather as a result.
Our real vulnerability is a multi year drought.
In 1975/76 there was a run of very dry summer, autumn, winter, spring and summer.
Our current problems are despite full reservoirs and groundwater just 3 months ago.
A repeat of 75/76 with added heat would be disastrous.
Temperatures reached 35.2°C today, marking the 7th day of 2026 where the UK has recorded 35°C or higher 👇
Prior to this year, the record was 5 days of ≥35°C, set in 1976 and 2020 🌡️
After 22 failed attempts to sort the social care crisis. The 23rd must now deliver.
It's time to put family carers first, guarantee free personal care, and end catastrophic care costs.
As Ukrainian drone attacks on Wildberries warehouses continue, one Russian paper today calls for “an urgent, decisive response.” Russian papers react to the charges against Telegram’s Pavel Durov. Meanwhile, Andy Burnham is causing the Russian press a problem. #ReadingRussia
It’s not just the lack of rain causing us to slip rapidly into droughts, it’s the heat.
Heat leads to rapid drying of vegetation and soils, exacerbating problems.
3 of the last 6 years have seen such conditions.
It will get worse.
