Finished the Alisa: The Parting demo - not particularly well, but hey. Pretty much what I was expecting, and while the co-op aspect doesn't interest me much from a gameplay perspective I think I'm going to enjoy the narrative aspect of it.
@vh_lots_game Good question π€ can't really think of anything in traditional survival horror, closest thing that comes to mind is maybe getting the max ranks in RE4R shooting range? (where it's an optional bonus challenge)
Tomorrow is Halloween but also the 5th Anniversary of Alisa!
Therefore we released the demo of Alisa: The Parting.
Currently only on Steam.
Have fun and Happy Halloween ππ»
@CasperCroes Trying this out tonightπAlisa is right up there on the list of best indie survival horrors imo, been excited for this one since I saw the announcement
I like it in old horror movies when someone opens a drawer or cupboard and there's just a big snake in there for some reason. Something oddly charming about them being picked to get a scare instead of something at least halfway plausible like a rat or spider or whatever.
Checking THE DEVILS showtimes again on the off-chance it was added to my local Cineplex (it wasn't) and I'm learning we apparently do age ratings per province - that Quebec rating seems pretty wild, haha
I should add that I'm not just talking about the ability to avoid enemies (which is very common), but actually being required to do that due to resources being so limited that you might soft-lock yourself otherwise.
Having to pick and choose which enemies to fight is often cited as a pillar of survival horror design, but how many games besides a few of the REs actually do that? I feel like the illusion of scarcity is much more common, where you're drip-fed enough resources to kill everything
It's not without some issues, but I'm really digging the pacing of Hellraiser Revival. The labyrinth segments being mostly walking sim breaks up the combat and gives you a chance to take in all the crazy visuals.
Also goes without saying at this point, but still blows my mind how incredible the first game looks. Can't think of any other game where the darkness has the amount of depth it does here, just completely engulfs everything beyond the light's range.
Interested to hear what's in the Alien: Isolation 2 Q&A tomorrow. Very curious if they're planning on incorporating more immersive sim elements ala Amnesia: The Bunker, considering how well they worked there.
@MrHooboMaster On the other hand I feel like Cronos skews more towards survival horror even though it borrows a lot from DS because I found it had much stricter inventory management and more limited ammo, but I see people calling it action horror as well.
@MrHooboMaster I think I would put it on my list but I can get the "action horror" categorization that some people use for it, just because it's such a blast to play and has so much combat. It is a pretty fuzzy line though, difficulty choice probably also factors in somewhat.
@HorrorsSurvival From personal experience there are plenty of resources if you take a ton of damage and kill almost everything as well π I made a point of avoiding at first but mostly stopped once I saw how much ammo you get...
I don't know if it's the recording quality or what, but some of the screams in these old 60s and 70s horror movies I've been watching lately are absolutely nuts - really puts that whole plot point of BLOW OUT in context when this was what they were competing against back then...
