I assumed nobody liked the app enough to rate it. Then I read my own code.
The prompt only fired if the user had completed a session on 5 of the last 7 nights.
It's a snoring app. People try it for two nights.
I'd built a gate that could never open.
Half my App Store keywords did nothing for a year.
Apple indexes name + subtitle + keywords as ONE pool and auto-combines them.
Name: "NightSnore - Snore Recorder"
Subtitle: "Track Snoring & Sleep Quality"
Keywords: snore, recorder, snoring, tracker, sleep
All dead weight.
@frederickjames Ha, true. Screenshots are the one I keep re-learning — every submission surfaces a rule I'd never have guessed existed.
The bible version would be out of date by the time you hit publish.
@wokepadia The daily-prank format is a great hook — the reveal is the whole product.
Good luck in review. Mine's in the queue right now too; went free-with-unlock after five months as a paid app, so this one feels like a bigger coin flip than usual.
And when the check fails — no network, unverified receipt — grant the full version anyway.
The risk is asymmetric. Wrongly locking out someone who paid earns a 1-star review. Wrongly unlocking a free user costs one sale and fixes itself next launch.
Turning a paid iOS app free without screwing the people who already bought it.
They paid $2.99. They keep everything, forever, without lifting a finger.
StoreKit 2 gives you exactly one tool for this — and it has two traps in it.
Trap #2: in Sandbox, TestFlight and Xcode it always returns "1.0".
Every tester looks like a legacy buyer, and you can never see your own paywall.
Guard on appTransaction.environment == .production, and ship a DEBUG toggle that forces the free tier.
What if you snore every night… and don’t even know it?I tested this and found out I snored for 2h 13m 😳Most people never hear themselves.
This app lets you finally do.
