Concept note: A lot of media organizations used to refer to HTS as terrorists. Recently and certainly today, most seem to be saying insurgents or rebels. Even Fox says rebels.

Today is day 49 of Laila’s hunger strike. She's becoming increasingly physically frail but she's still firm in her commitment to the hunger strike.

Laila has not eaten or consumed any liquids besides water and hydration salts for the 49 days since Alaa should have been released

Today is my turn to join Laila Soueif for a day in her hunger strike. 49 days since Alaa’s sentence was served and he remains in prison, and his mother on hunger strike.

I hope that Alaa’s nightmare will end soon, and that Laila’s body proves to be as strong as her resolve.
