BREAKING: Exxon Mobil has shut down one of the largest diesel refineries in the Midwest, which produces ~11 million gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel per day, due to outage issues.
This comes as diesel prices have already surged nearly 90% this year and the US has entered peak diesel demand season.
We expect to see diesel prices push toward $7.00/gallon.
The system is broken.
You know the system is broken when stocks FALL after the US unexpectedly adds +162,000 jobs in a month, TRIPLING expectations.
Why? Because a strong jobs report means a higher chance of rate hikes.
This is the product 60-straight months of 2%+ inflation.
Markets now "want" a labor market collapse.
The diesel market is facing a major supply shortage.
The US diesel refining margin is up to a record $106/barrel, surpassing $100 for the first time.
This is a key measure of how much refiners can potentially earn from turning a barrel of crude oil into diesel, with wider margins signaling tighter diesel supplies and higher refining profits.
Diesel refining margins have more than tripled since February.
By comparison, during the 2022 energy crisis, this metric peaked at ~$85/barrel.
The surge reflects a severe shortage of global diesel supplies amid the Iran War.
As a result, US diesel inventories are down to 103.4 million barrels, their lowest on record for this time of year, while retail diesel prices are up to $5.78 per gallon, just 4 cents from their all-time high set in June 2022.
The global fuel shortage is becoming far more severe than the crude oil market alone suggests.
Warsh admitted 65 months of high inflation are the Fed’s fault, yet failed to acknowledge the Govt.'s shared responsibility. Despite tough talk on inflation, his failure to mention the soaring national debt or Treasury's Operation Twist shows he won't do anything to rein it in.
WARSH PUTS INFLATION FRONT AND CENTER
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh struck a hawkish tone, saying the Fed’s priority must remain price stability.
Warsh said summer inflation data improved, but underlying trends have not meaningfully changed. The Fed must be confident inflation is returning to target—or “we have work to do.”
He reaffirmed the 2% PCE inflation target as “firm and fixed.”
Meanwhile, the economy remains resilient: consumer spending is healthy, labor markets are stable and business investment is rising rapidly.
Warsh also said financial conditions are difficult to describe as restrictive, with credit markets showing few signs of policy restraint.
At the July meeting, a “good majority” favored waiting before changing rates.

Bessent is pulling off a “silver rug pull” move to deal with crude oil prices today - I wonder if he knows that pushing the price this low won’t magically get crude oil materialise and refill the tanks
We did it boys!
Except last time this happened it created the boomers and our population exploded higher so we could work our way out of it.
Today money printing and inflation seem like the only option to keep this Ponzi going.
JUST IN: Another JPY intervention
I don't know; maybe in Japan, if you keep repeating the same action over and over again, you can achieve a different outcome at some point, differently from what's the case elsewhere
