@_Chris_Coghlan@teamsquarepeg It’s no surprise - our family have been utterly failed by our LA in regard our daughters SEND provision. There is no accountability at all and we are completely left to pick up the pieces
There is a familiar genre of post about a child sexual abuse arrest: “Look - the offender was MAGA / a pastor / a conversion therapy advocate.”
And then there is the mirror-image post: “Look - the offender was queer / progressive / an activist.”
Both miss the point.
Quite remarkable that you can mess up a landslide victory quite this badly and quite this quickly. Labour had huge potential to achieve whatever it wanted to. Instead they are going the way of the Conservatives - interminable civil war.
Read the Observer newspaper front to back so you don’t have to. I fear the left/centre left is repeating the same old mistakes.
Articles arguing Brexit will be reversed because public poll against it now, that a stronger EU relationship is needed as special relationship with US is ‘stone-dead’. Smart people write polemics against populist leaders - Trump, Orban - and frankly condescending pieces about their supporters. Everything is fake news and polling. The Democrats will win the midterms as support falls for GOP after a war no one wants.
STOP.
We are making the same mistakes as we have for two decades now - waiting for the pendulum to swing in our favour as people realise their mistakes. The truth is people are lost because what’s in front of them is broken. The best thing we on the left can do now is stop to understand why, and develop answers to halt and reverse decline. Why rejoin an EU that clearly is powerless? Why rejoice a hallow electoral victory when it’s just another case of people voting against the other guy? Why have a foreign policy so reactive and introspective that it has the by product of rewarding despots and murderous dictators? And where is our plan for an economy that actually delivers higher living standards (hint the answer isn’t redistributing an ever dwindling pie with a mythical wealth tax.)
Our politics has fallen so far - it must be about a plan and an agenda for the future. Now, tell me where I can read about that…
Still think too much of response to Polanski and Farage relies on “well populists can say that/fantasy economics” without properly engaging with the fact that in both distinct and similar ways both of them have narratives about giving people agency/hope things can be better
@derbyshire_live Apart from the building itself there is nothing to make you want to go - it’s not a destination unlike say Altrincham Market hall, which Derby should have studied closely for how to make this a success.
Nothing the traders are selling is a reason for me to go.
@derbyshire_live Food offering misses even the basics like a good quality pizza and I’m not convinced the new place coming - selling stuff like stew - is going to draw more people.
I get why the initiative is being dismissed but if the alternative is ‘be more like Reform’ which seems to be the case in government that’s not winning back Reform voters, who’ll vote Reform! And is losing left leaning voters who don’t agree with that approach so 🤷♂️
No offence to some good PLP colleagues who are involved, but as someone in a front line Reform facing seat, I didn't have "reestablish the Tribune group of soft left MPs" on my list of useful ways to tackle Farage et al https://t.co/EsuNstlOxA
@samcarlisle@teamsquarepeg The email I received from a Strategic Director in my council regarding my daughters SEND needs referred to the need to avoid unreasonable public expenditure - which was nice
@faisalislam Everyone knows he’s a grifter and being POTUS is a continuation of that, to line his own pockets. Why aren’t the media calling this out - it’s not simply unconventional…
Such a poor decision by 6 Music to remove MAH from a daily show! The most innovative show on the daytime schedule. We’ll now have a bland, safe line up from February and for me, no reason to tune in until the New Music Fix show at 7.
We have to decide who are we building for? Developers’ bottom lines today or for generations tomorrow? The answer to that question gets you different housing outcomes for different people.
