nana is not queerbaiting, but is rather a queer tragedy. it’s a study of how heteronormativity regulates women’s desire and intimacy. the impossibility of their love isn’t a failure of storytelling, it’s the structural violence of the heteropatriarchal order itself
With all of this going on right now of course people are going to get on here and be bitter that Ai Yazawa has not finished Nana. Here’s a quote from her that will really put you into perspective when you get on here and act like a self entitled insensitive jerk because Nana has no ending. "I had a bitter experience of falling down once before, restarting, and falling down again as soon as I forced myself. This time, I would like to start again after healing it properly so that I would never make a mistake. I haven't held a pen once since I fell down. I'm relaxing and relaxing.” And “I’m sleeping 2 hours a day. Now that I think about it, it wasn’t good.” Ai Yazawa is chronically ill. She is not a machine, she is a person. She was not born solely given the purpose to fulfill your entertainment needs. She has stated numerous times that being chronically ill has prevented her from finishing Nana. Just know that when you shit on her for doing this but not finishing Nana, she’s just as upset and angry at herself for not being able to do what she’s been wanting to do. It seriously pisses me off the way yall talk about her.
