By this logic, I can sell Ferraris for $10 as long as taxpayers pay the other $399,990. Problem solved. That’s the economics behind “30% below retail.”

The price doesn’t disappear. It just gets transferred to taxpayers, who also get the privilege of paying for Mamdani’s grocery stores, the staff, the electricity, the maintenance, and everything else.

Meanwhile, local grocery stores and bodegas get to compete with a government store that never has to earn a profit.

I agree with human desire has no ceiling and and I think that’s a very important element in our dna, that is one of the elements of why humans are so advanced. But I think the abundance that @elonmusk is talking about will be enough for 80% or 90% of the population. Most people don’t want to be building companies, have risk, work 100 hours a week, most people just want to live. Once AGI and then SGI is activated it would be pointless to work because of the speed things can be completed will be 100x fold in speed, accuracy and way cheaper price. Will people still work? Yes! But very differently.

It’s same reason why Elon still does or Bezos or any billionaire/millionaire because they want to build a cool future. Do they need to? Absolutely not, they can be in Bora Bora and do nothing. The dreamers and visionaries will always be finding ways to build and some do it for better and better life and others do it because they love building things.

If you use this example but multiply it across alll industries:
10 years ago it would cost someone to build a website for their starting small business thousands of dollars. I mean it would be easy 2-5k. Now with help of AI or other platform it takes 2 hours at most with maybe like $100 to build.
